Meet Shohreh Mofidi and Zohreh Mesri of Fabulous Two Wedding and Party Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shohreh Mofidi and Zohreh Mesri.

Shohreh and Zohreh, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In 2013 my sister and I decided to start a wedding business after volunteering to help my brother in law and his fiance with their wedding. We are from Iran, and in the Persian culture, the bride and groom get married in front of a special decorative wedding table called, sofreh aghd. The literal translation is “wedding spread”.

All the items on the sofreh aghd have special meaning and are to bring good luck and fortune to the bride and groom’s marriage. My sister and I made the items and designed the sofreh aghd for my brother in law’s wedding. My sister and I are both artistic people and love to be creative. Through this experience and our love of weddings, we decided to create our own sofreh aghd designing business.

As the years have passed, we have gained more experience and knowledge of the wedding industry, so we decided to expand our business to include wedding coordinating and party planning. It’s a great business because not only do we get to be involved in the happiest day of a person’s life, but we also get to feed our creative soul.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Fortunately, it has been a smooth ride. Obviously with any business, through time and experiences you learn and better yourself. A lot of the designing and creating of the sofreh items were self-taught. For example, making flower shapes out of bread or making shelled almond nuts look like grape clusters. Unfortunately, there are not any classes you could take or even YouTube videos you can source to help learn how to make the items. Through trial and error, we learned on our own.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Fabulous Two Wedding and Party Design story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a full wedding and party planning company who specialize in Persian weddings. We design and create Persian wedding ceremonial table, called Sofreh aghd. The sofreh aghd has been a part of the Persian wedding tradition for over 3000 years.

All the decorative items on the sofreh are symbolic and they are to bring good luck and good fortune to the bride and groom and their marriage. The sofreh is usually set up on a low stage at various sizes, we often design them to be 6′ x 8′, and is covered with beautiful fabric. The following are some of the essential items that are included on the sofreh; mirror (the bride and grooms see their reflection together, representing their long unity), candelabras and candles (represent brightness and light in their marriage), decorated eggs and nuts (represent fertility), decorated rock candy and sweets (represent the sweetening of their marriage), decorated bread and wheat (represent prosperity) and water (representing purity).

We make all the decorative items ourselves, like the bread, eggs and nuts, that are on the sofreh. My sister and I are both artists and creative people. We look at the sofrehs as a piece of art as we are designing them. One thing that we take pride in, is that we really like to think out of the box when we design. Even though we apply the same elements of design to each sofreh, like visual balance and color harmony, we like to be creative and original in our designs. We have sofrehs that are very traditional Persian styles to ultra-modern looks to shabby chic styles. We like to give our clients a variety of styles to choose from. I think we set ourselves apart from others by the customer service we offer our clients and by our attention to detail.

We realize that a wedding is one of the most special days of someone’s life and how important it is to make it as perfect as you can for them. We definitely go out of our way for our clients, because we really become attached to and fond of our brides and grooms, and their families. It never fails, that both my sister and I shed tears as our brides and grooms walk down the aisle. Our clients become like family to us and we have created many friendships throughout the years. And when it comes to our planning and designing my sister and I are perfectionists, and attention to detail is very important to us. Our motto is, its all about the details and no detail is too small to go unnoticed.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
In the Persian culture, we do strongly believe in good and bad luck. It’s interesting that the main concept of the sofreh aghd is to bring good luck to the couple’s marriage and ward off bad omens and bad luck from their lives. But both myself and my sister try to have a positive outlook on life, and even though we do believe in luck, we also know that hard work and dedication is what will really bring you success.

I feel lucky that we were able to start this business together and that we get to be involved in the happiest day of someone’s life, And we have definitely been lucky to have worked with such wonderful clients and vendors in the wedding industry. But, I also know that we have invested a lot of time and tried to better ourselves throughout the years. Experience can be the best teacher. We have really learned and have been able to grow through our experiences in the wedding industry.
