Meet Trailblazer Laura Huezo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Huezo.

Laura, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I got my start at California hair design academy at the age of 20 years old in 2008 and I’ve been doing hair ever since, I love what I do and have enjoyed every step of my career from assisting a senior stylist at salon soule in Point Loma when I was fresh out of beauty school to finally working for myself booth renting in La Mesa at salon radiance in 2014. I am now at wolf and sparrow living my dream job in a space I love where I can provide a luxurious experience for my clients.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I love and enjoy what I do so with the support of my family I have found my road in this industry to be enjoyable and fun, don’t mind spending hours on end studying and practicing my craft so if geeking out on hair isn’t your thing then, maybe it’s hard but I find it exciting and fun to learn about what I love to do.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I am a balayage specialist. I have taken many classes to perfect my craft from the business of balayage to academy Ramirez Tran, beauty coach with Nikki Lee and Riawna Capri, some of the best celebrity hairstylists in the business and even local stylist in my area that I look up to. For me, the most important part of my brand besides doing amazing hair is the experience my client has from the moment they sit in my chair, I want them to feel comfortable relaxed and enjoy their moment.

Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
I love beauty coach tv, it has seriously changed my skill level to be able to see celebrity hairstylists work their magic and give you pointers along the way. My favorite books are: you are a bad ass and you are a bad ass at making money both my faves and my favorite influencer is Jamie Dana, hair educator, hands down, the best business advice for hairstylist.
