Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosa Garcia.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Rosa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I open the historic Bruckner Bar and Grill for which I worked since 2007 as a bookkeeper and property manager.
In 2012, after Hurricane Sandy, it left establishment inoperable and many were forced to shut their doors on their business leaving the community destitute of commerce, but I saw an opportunity. I viewed it not as a challenge but an opportunity to recreate and I did just that.
Now operating under the Mott Haven Bar and Grill, I have successfully reopened the doors to members of the community to bring new life into the community. For the last five years, I have provided meals to over 750 families in need during Thanksgiving in collaboration with Fresh Direct and the developers of the area to make this contribution possible. I am now an active member of the Bronx Boy Scouts of America, Community Board 1, Hostos Golf Outing Committee where they focus on making the neighborhood a better place.
In 2017, I opened Mott Haven On The Go, a food truck concept and Mott Haven Events, the catering and venue hospitality business of Mott Haven Hospitality Group (MHHG). As President and CEO of MHHG, my emphasis is on continuing the trend of innovation and creating new concepts while strategically growing existing successful concepts. I also just initiated a Campaign called #IAMME under her company 31 Agency as of July 31st, 2018. The #IAMME Campaign was created to build a community that uplifts and upholds those that have cultivated their authentic power after defeat. This is dedicated to all who choose to live in light after stepping out of the shadows of societal standards.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a business Entrepreneur with one or more than one business is tough. It takes a lot of mental strength. As a mom, I don’t get to spend as much time with my kids due to the hectic work schedule that never stops. My advice is to stay focus on why you started. Remain humble and always pay it forward.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Mott Haven Bar & Grill – what should we know?
I am a restaurant owner since 2013. I then started my #IAMME Campaign in 2018 to help and allow people to not fit in the Box. We are all unique individuals and we should all remain authentic.
What sets me apart is that I am the same person when I was an employee and when I became an employer. Sometimes titles change people and they forget how and who helped them to get there.
I remain humble and appreciative of all God has put in my path.
Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
Love Pinterest. I am very visual, so I create boards for all projects.
Right now, I am reading a book by Joe Dispensa “ Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself “. I also enjoy “The Power of Now” and “ The Alchemist.”
