Rising Stars: Meet Kai Diaz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kai Diaz.

Kai Diaz

Hi Kai, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I jumped right into full-time entrepreneurship around 2017 and started building my creative studio. Currently, I am still based in Solana Beach but have been working on a lot of photographic assignments on location. The studio started out in brand and graphic design, but my passion in photography started to merge into the client projects. This is exciting as I get to merge both of my passions together, and it makes the projects that come in very fun!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
So far, it has been fairly smooth. I feel very fortunate that I didn’t have too many struggles with the studio’s business. Almost all of my client work comes from “word of mouth” marketing. Somehow the design and photography projects blended together organically.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
If you asked me before 2024, I’d say my studio specializes in brand design and strategy. But now that a lot of my photographic work is getting out there in the wild, the studio has become a one-stop shop for branding needs. From Brand Design to Photography [film/digital].

I’m proud of the brands that I’ve built and worked on that made it through the Covid Pandemic era. It was tough times, and it was hard to see a lot of my favorite small businesses have to fold their cards. Fortunately, the brands I’ve helped build had strength in brand loyalty. Their customers helped to make sure they survived through the tough times.

I’ve been told that what sets me apart from others is the ease of collaboration between client and designer. I feel like it is what keeps my clients coming back to work with my studio.

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I grew up dancing in a Polynesian dance troop. I once was a paid professional “hula dancer.”
