Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Horn.
Hi Madison, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I really got into design when my husband and I purchased our first home in South Oceanside. The house had great bones, but it needed a lot of love, and going through that renovation process made me realize how much I enjoy the transformation process and the creativity behind finding a balance between honoring the existing architecture of California’s coast and breathing new life into a home in a way that feels warm and personal. After finishing our renovation, I started taking on small design projects on the side, and that’s when it really clicked for me that this was my passion. From there, I began taking interior design more seriously and have been growing my business, working with clients throughout the San Diego area ever since.
Before launching my design studio, I spent several years working in commercial real estate finance, which gave me a strong foundation in budgeting, project management, and client communication. That experience still shapes how I approach my work today. I’m very organized and detail-oriented, and I really value creating a seamless, stress-free experience for my clients from start to finish.
My design style leans toward natural materials, layered textures, and a timeless, livable feel. At the end of the day, my goal with every project is to create a space that feels personal, comfortable, and effortlessly beautiful, almost like bringing that relaxed coastal retreat feeling into your everyday home.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting my own business really felt like something I was meant to do, and I’ve had an entrepreneurial spirit since I was very young. My background in business gave me a strong foundation for launching California Revival Studio, which definitely helped set me up for success early on.
That said, it hasn’t always been a completely smooth road. Like any business owner, there are always new challenges that come up day to day. The same is especially true in interior design, where construction projects naturally come with hurdles, delays, and unexpected issues.
I’ve learned that success in this industry really comes down to strong problem-solving skills and staying forward-focused. Instead of getting caught up in day-to-day setbacks, I try to stay solution-oriented and keep the bigger vision of the project in mind, while making sure the client experience remains as seamless and positive as possible.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m the founder and principal designer of California Revival Studio, a North County San Diego–based interior design studio dedicated to creating serene, coastal-inspired sanctuaries that capture the effortless feel of California living. I offer a range of personalized interior design services, including full-service design, furnishing and styling, and hourly consulting.
My style blends coastal influence with relaxed, layered interiors. I love mixing vintage and new pieces to create balance, and I’m always focused on designing homes that feel like a vacation retreat, effortless, calm, and uniquely personal to each client.
What I’m most proud of is the trust my clients place in me to transform their homes into spaces that truly reflect how they want to live. What sets me apart is that I combine a strong design perspective with a very organized, detail-oriented approach, which comes from my background in finance. It allows me to manage projects smoothly while also keeping the creative vision at the forefront, so clients get both a beautiful result and a seamless experience from start to finish.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I’ve lived in several different parts of San Diego, including Birdrock, Leucadia, and South Oceanside. One of the things I love most about the city is how each neighborhood feels completely distinct. Every time you explore a new area, you get a different experience, whether it’s the food, architecture, the local businesses, or the overall energy of the community.
As a designer, I’m especially drawn to the variety in home styles throughout San Diego. One of my favorite pastimes is driving to a new neighborhood, parking, and walking my dog just to take in the scenery and admire the homes. It’s something that constantly sparks inspiration for me, especially with how incredible the coastal architecture is here.
I’m also obsessed with sourcing vintage pieces in coastal cities, and San Diego has some of the best finds. The estate sales here are incredible, and you can find everything from vintage seascapes and shell planters to unique ceramics, woven furniture, and really one-of-a-kind decorative pieces that bring so much character into a home.
Honestly, there’s not much I dislike about San Diego. If I had to choose something, it would probably just be the traffic at times, but overall I feel very lucky to live and work here!
