Check Out Shannon Weller’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Weller.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Design for me started at home. My mother always thought I had a ‘knack’ for it and would often ask for my help around the house arranging furniture or accessorizing a shelf. It was her encouragement that led me to design school and, in-turn, my first internship. That original, temporary position worked out so well that I took on a full-time role with the company and my career began. The firm focused mainly on commercial spaces, which I became adept at, but it wasn’t until I took on a position at a residential design firm that I found my true calling. Working one on one with homeowners to realize their dreams and create spaces where they are at peace became my obsession. Now, some 20 years later, I still find the same level of passion and enthusiasm in each project. So much so that at the beginning of 2020 I started Shannon Weller Design and haven’t looked back!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t think it’s been easier or harder than any other career path. Like most jobs tied to housing market there is a fair amount of volatility in the workplace. That along with the desire to push my limits, and the ‘glass ceiling’ at past firms, has led to some to some bumps. However, each bump has turned into a blessing, so it’s difficult to look back on them as an obstacle now.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an interior designer that specializes in full-home renovations and/or new builds. I take pride in being able to ‘get’ my Clients. I’ve found that people are often able to point at something and say they like it but have a harder time describing why. This along with the extremely personal nature of remodeling/building a home can create a difficult course to navigate. My ability to see what a Client likes, understand why, and then apply that to their space is something that sets me apart from others in my industry.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Hmm…just an average kid, I think. I wasn’t overly shy, but also not extremely out-going. My parents say that I was ‘spirited’, lol. I always took this as meaning ‘strong-willed’. My husband may tell you otherwise. I was a gymnast and dancer. In fact, becoming a dancer was my career goal for a long time.
