Keeley, it’s been too long since we last connected. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts with our community again. Some readers might have missed our prior conversations, so maybe you can kick things off for us with a quick intro?
Hey there, it’s great to connect again! I’m Keeley, owner of Keeley Miller Portrait and professional hype woman. I am a photographer specializing in contemporary beauty and boudoir portraiture FOR women – not just of women.
Tell us a bit about your business – what do you photograph/where are you located?
Sure! I started my business back in 2010. For ten years, I have shown women their beauty and power through photography. But it’s about so much more than taking pretty photos. It’s about taking the time to celebrate you, right now, exactly how you are. Even if you haven’t lost the Quarantine 15. Even if you think your age is going in the wrong direction. And yes — even if you don’t feel like enough yet.
I photograph women because I understand how it feels to struggle to see our own beauty and worth. Let’s be honest – some days, I still do.
But I know the power and transformation that a photoshoot can have. I’ve seen it and created it for hundreds of women of all ages, sizes, and backgrounds in my studio.
My studio is located in the Gaslamp Quarter in downtown San Diego, but I’m originally from Indianapolis. Between the sunny weather, the beaches, and the fish tacos… I don’t think I will ever leave!
Are there any projects you are currently working on?
Yes! I am currently working on a campaign I launched last year called Bare.
The Bare Campaign is an initiative to photograph women of all backgrounds, ages, and sizes as they are through a series of black and white portraits that highlight your natural beauty.
I’ve been so grateful to be able to photograph a wide variety of women for this project and show them how beautiful they already are – without the extensive makeup, fancy wardrobe, or distracting backdrops. Hearing their stories and see their confidence explode during their photoshoot is the most rewarding part of my job.
Why did you decide to launch the campaign?
The pressure of perfection can be overwhelming, especially for women. We are constantly told to lose weight, be better mothers, work harder – all at the same time.
In an age of social media, fast fashion, and 24/7 content, it can feel impossible to keep up to society’s standardized ideas of beauty.
I decided to launch the campaign in an effort to change the way we see ourselves, one photoshoot at a time.
Who can participate in the campaign?
If you identify as a female and are over the age of 18, you can absolutely participate! Please note that all photoshoots will take place in my studio in downtown San Diego. After choosing your favorite images, you can choose which image you would like me to share for the campaign. There is no cost to apply, and no purchase required.
What’s the best part about your job?
Seeing my client’s confidence transform throughout their photoshoot is definitely the best part of my job.
Let’s get real: photoshoots can be SCARY. Stepping in front of the lens is totally nerve-wracking!
Most of my clients have never had a photoshoot before. And while those first few minutes can make you feel like oh-my-god-am-I-really-going-to-do-this…
The photoshoot is always so much fun and seeing the results will make you feel like oh-my-god-I-look-freaking-awesome.
I love seeing my clients strut out of the studio with a whole new level of confidence.
Thank you so much again for sharing all of this with us. Before we go, can you share with our readers how they can connect with you, learn more or show support?
