Today we’d like to introduce you to Dennis Greenhill.
Hi Dennis, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
This is a difficult question for me to answer. There was no specific entry point and no real linear path from there to here. I have always lived by the idea of “Go with the flow”. I have always wanted to learn as many different things as I could, thus opening so many different doors and growing as a human and as an artist. My success has been though opening myself up to all these different skills and putting myself out there.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
By just letting the wind blow me where they may, it has been a very interesting road. As with everything, there are highs and lows. Each one of those are critical to our learning process. I really try and learn from setbacks and disappointments to end up stronger. This philosophy has help with the biggest challenge I face, self-doubt and insecurity.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am the worst at self-promotion. I do my best to let my art speak for itself.
I am a “Jack of All Trades” kind of artist and I think that fact is what sets me apart. I learn new skills across various types of art and work it incorporate various aspects into final pieces. Wood, metal, cooking, crochet, printmaking, painting, leather, film, photography, comic books; you name it, I’ve done it. I have met with success in several disciplines, with photography being the most successful. Sales and awards aside, I believe the one thing that I am most proud of is visceral response someone has to a specific piece of my art. It’s the emotional connect that gets me.
What were you like growing up?
As a child, I was encouraged to explore intellectually, artistically, and literally. I was shy and an introvert, yet found myself in these endeavours. I was afforded a worldview thanks to my mom being Canadian and living in Japan for a few years. I was able to travel and see different views. I fit into the traditional molds of “Athletic” or “Popular”. All of these aspects have led me to where I am today.
