Meet Angela Thomasson of Three Elle Creations in Mira Mesa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Thomasson.

Angela, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Starting my business stems from being a HUGE Padres fan. I got tired of not being able to buy Padres home decor items. So in February 2019, I took matters into my own hands and made a Padres wreath for my house. I loved it so much that I made another one. I even got orders from friends and family for one. It was then that I decided to start my own business. My business name, Three Elle Creations, came to fruition because of my favorite quote, “Live, Laugh, Love”. Each word starts with the letter L. There are three L’s. Hence the name Three Elle.

Looking back now, I think to myself, “Wow, I’ve come so far”. I say this because my first wreath wasn’t the best looking wreath. What I make now is so much better! I’ve learned and grown as a crafter. I have quite the following on social media. It’s amazing to see they follow me because they like my work. I’m constantly trying to find ways to build my audience. I take pride in the attention to detail put into each wreath. I make each wreath with the mindset that I’d want it displayed on my front door or in my home.

It’s been a HUGE labor of love. I’m fortunate to have a very supportive husband and family. It hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth it. I still have a long ways to go as far as obtaining my goals and growing my business. I remind myself everyday that it’s all about baby steps.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has definitely NOT been a smooth road. There have been bumps along the way for sure. After I made my first wreaths, I tried making t-shirts. Then I moved on to making signs. Then in September 2019, I went back to wreath making. This time I decided to try a different method and it’s all been uphill from there. I’ve struggled with how to price my wreaths, how to market them, how to retain customers, etc. Being a business owner is a 24/7 job. I try not to look at it as struggles, but growing pains. It’s par for the course.

Please tell us about Three Elle Creations.
Being the owner of Three Elle Creations, I play every role in my company. I have no paid employees. I make one-of-a-kind wreaths and floral home decor items. There are no two items alike. I’m known for my wreath making. I go Live twice a week on Facebook and make an item for my audience to see. I have viewers from all over the country. It’s not just San Diego, which is crazy to me still to this day. I think to myself, “They are watching ME! They are supporting ME! They tell me they love MY work!” It’s crazy, but in such a feel-good sort of way.

As a company, I am most proud of the fact that I am one-of-a-kind. I’m not a carbon copy of other companies. I set myself apart from the competition by the method in which I make my items, the materials I use, the bows I make. I’m told all the time how I make it look so easy. Lol I pride myself on the attention to detail I put into each item I make. I love what I do so much!

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would do everything the same all over again! The hurdles I’ve overcome along the way have molded my business and made it what it is today. I’m determined. I’m motivated. I’m creative! Nothing is going to stop me from getting to where I want to be.
