Meet Adrian Pelkus of A Squared Technologies in North county

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrian Pelkus.

Adrian, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m Adrian Pelkus.

As an only child, I dove into science and electronics and model making at a very early age.
Fixing TV’s and minibikes at 13, I built a functioning robotic hand at 15.UCLA CAPP (Child Amputee Prosthetics Project) hired me and there I worked 2 years as an electronic technician until I graduated Pali HS.

NAVY trained as a TD (A7E flight simulators) where I met my wife Amy.
Went to work as a Prototype assembler and rose to Engineering tech. Became Founding member of a number of high tech startups pioneering radiation monitoring systems, direct write e beams, x-ray inspections systems, thin film magnetic and optic coatings. Went into consumer electronics as an Engineering Manager and developed wireless car alarms, teletext decoders and a multitude of residential and industrial alarm systems before starting my own new product development business in 1985.

I am now a multiple award winning new product developer with 30+ years’ experience creating over 300 different electronic products and high technology processes. As Founder, CEO, COO and CTO, I have helped startup several technology companies including A Squared Technologies, Inc. the home of California Product Developers.

I am a named inventor on fourteen issued U.S. Patents including the “Baby Think it Over” infant simulator, a “Thin Film Flexible Solar Cell”, the FDA cleared “Jaw Elevation Device” and O2MislyTM Wound Treatment System. In 2005 I reorganized the San Diego Inventors Forum a 501c3 to help startup entrepreneurs and am it’s Chairman.I’m an active Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) at CONNECT and member of the national Inventor Groups of America (IGA)

I’m honored to serve on the BoD’s of both United Inventors Association of America (UIA) and US Inventor (USI), organizations dedicated to assisting and educating inventors.

Has it been a smooth road?
As a futurist, many of my concepts have frustratingly been 10 – 30 years ahead of their time.

Some examples>
Electric mopeds conceived in mid-70’s
Electric screwdriver early 80’s
Rug Bug smart vacuum robot late 80’s
Micro 3 rf controlled car alarm late 80’s
Thin film solar cells late 90’s
Noninvasive brain monitoring early 00’s
VHT- Vaporous Hyperoxia wound therapy mid 10’s

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the A Squared Technologies story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a product development firm that has helped bring an array of devices to market, ranging from medical devices, industrial controls, to a “Baby Think it Over” doll used to teach high school students the responsibilities of having a baby, to a genetic research device that has become standard in many universities. Once we take on a project, we also provide inventors and entrepreneurs with electronic product design and electronic manufacturing services. Initial concept to circuit board design to assembly, testing, packaging, and shipping all in one place.

Between shoe step sensing technology to solar cells, infant simulators to silver plating systems, alarms to electric cars, robotics to vacuums (just to name a few) our experience in new product development is quite extensive. In the medical field alone we have developed over a dozen new devices including TENS pain management, muscle stimulation, bone growth, wound healing, gait correction, anesthesia tool, prosthetics, laser stimulation, photo-dynamic therapies, thermal therapies, compression therapies and more.

Family owned and operated for over 30 years here in California.

We have designed, developed, and delivered breakthrough products for many industries and to companies far longer than our major competitors. This means our track record speaks with authority. A Squared designers lead the way and then our Network of Preferred Providers, experts in their specific modalities, join the effort.

Adrian Pelkus is the CEO and founder of A Squared Technologies, Inc., the proud home of California Product Developers (CPD).

CPD is a consortium of preferred service providers to help inventors get from concept to market. Together we have helped develop hundreds of products and processes ranging from low to high tech garnishing multiple patents and launching many businesses for our clients.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
We hope re-shoring brings back assembly work so desperately needed here in USA to rebuild our middle class.
Total Cost of Ownership is showing business the benefits of manufacturing back here in America.
Political climate has changed and trade agreements are being modified to assist the American manufacturers.

Unfortunately patent laws have eroded and our system which was #1 is now #12.
Devastating to inventors, dis-incentivizing them and investment in startups.
Our business like so many others depends on innovation and we are no longer top 10 in the world.
Patent laws must be reversed!
