Meet Lisa Hinz of LMHinz Marketing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Hinz.

Lisa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started planning my business back in 2013/2014 before launching it in 2015. While I was content with my in-house marketing position with a Registered Investment Advisor firm, I started thinking about what my “dream job” would look like… what my “dream life” could be. If I could wake up every morning doing exactly the type of work I loved, living the life I imagined, what would that be for me personally? That’s when I had an “ah-ha” moment. I have always loved creating something brand new. Give me a blank piece of paper and pen, and my mind likes to create the lines I will eventually color within.

My industry is always changing and at the time, content creation for brands was a relatively new concept. As an English major, the parts of my marketing jobs that I always loved the most related to creating content, writing, and connecting with an audience. My education and ten years of professional experience in marketing prepared me for the perfect opportunity to start my content marketing business. And the best part was that there was demand in the marketplace for the exact service I could and wanted to provide.

LMHinz Marketing was born out of a desire to create, a belief that there was a better, more fulfilling way to work, and a realization that I could actually succeed if I launched a business myself. Taking calculated risks was not new for me, but exercising a newfound entrepreneurial muscle most certainly was. But with thoughtful planning and careful preparation, I endeavored to try. And I am so incredibly thankful I did!

Today, LMHinz Marketing serves professional service business in finance, tech, and human resources. The business is still growing, but it is boutique business that selectively takes on new clients so that I can ensure my resources grow in-step with client needs. I also had a baby last year and am allowing my business to support the family-oriented lifestyle that is so incredibly important to me right now. It’s amazing to think that this idea that I had has allowed me to focus my time and energy on all the aspects of professional and personal life that matter to me the most.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No business is without its challenges, and I had to learn a lot of hard lessons in my first year. My biggest struggles with my business were created the right suite of services at the right price point for my ideal client. I also discovered that selling required a confidence that I didn’t immediately possess when I was a brand new business in 2015.

But, through trial and error, and relentless persistence, I figured out what worked and what didn’t; what types of clients I worked best with, and how to be efficient with resources.

What were you like growing up?
I was born and raised in the great state of New Jersey! I was a constant optimist and enjoyed working hard in school and otherwise.

Growing up, I was a kid who liked to dream big. I spent countless hours journalling about everything that was going on in my life and about all the things I most looked forward to in the future. Nothing seemed impossible to me when I was younger. I was (and still am) super excitable! I love life and I love that every day is a new opportunity.

I was an honor roll student. I played field hockey and lacrosse throughout high school. I got my first job when I was 15 scooping ice cream at a great little place on Long Beach Island. From then on I worked every summer through college. I’ve cleaned houses, was a hostess and waitress at my favorite summer job, and even worked at a Christian gift store near my house after school for a while.

I always just wanted to have fun, enjoy my friendships, get good grades and set myself up for my future.
