Today we’d like to introduce you to Claudia Nuñez.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am also known as “Chaya Mua” in the beauty industry. I started to pursue makeup professionally in 2003 when I first applied to my very first makeup job at Mac Cosmetics. Ever since then, my love for makeup grew. Back in the day, they didn’t have Facebook or Instagram. YouTube wasn’t very popular as it’s now with tutorials. So, I learned from working hands-on, freelancing and practicing on any and all of my family and friends. I soon started jumping applying to different makeup counters such as Clinique, Estée Lauder, Benefit and ended right back at Mac. I couldn’t stay away from the makeup counters. Working as a makeup artits never once felt like a “job” I felt right at home! Till this day, I love heat I do. The most beautiful thing about makeup to me, is being able to watch and see my clients self confidence rise and watch her emotion in her face when I’m done with a makeover. They are full of confidence, opposite of what they came in with. Being able to transform someone into a swan or even Cinderella for 1 night is an amazing feeling. This is why I do what I do. Love changing faces and building confidence in woman, making them feel empowering.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
If it wasn’t for the horrible anxiety attacks I suffered from for 6 years, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I remember the first time I got an anxiety attack at work. I was taken in an ambulance, rushed to the hospital just to be told “it’s all in your brain” it’s just anxiety. Every day, I felt like I was going to die and have a heart attack, so naturally, I stopped working. My coworkers started calling me and telling me that my clients would look for me at the counter and requested if they could come to my home for makeup. Sure enough, since I was left jobless and needed the income, I did just that. I started taking on clients and now I am where I am! So in a way, I thank anxiety.
what should we know about Chaya Mua? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Anyone that knows my work, knows me for my smokey eyes and cut crease! I love dramatic makeup! I’m all about the eyes. My dramatic eyes are definitely what sets me apart from the rest. I’ve had makeup artist I look up to, take my makeup class just to learn how I achieve these dramatic looks.
