Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Martinez.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Alex. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
I came to San Diego State University from Pleasanton, CA in 2010. Like many other students, I came to college without a clear vision of what I wanted to do in life. However, what was clear to me is that I always wanted to help people and a lot of people.
During college, I would go to the class full time and work 25+ hours a week at a sandwich shop making $10 dollars an hour. After doing this schedule for a while, I slowly began burning out. The question I began to ask myself was: “How can I work smarter rather than harder?”
I became very curious, and I stumbled upon a book called Rich Dad Poor Dad. This book explains how real estate can be a great investment vehicle to achieve financial success. Once I read Rich Dad Poor Dad, I began voraciously studying the real estate industry. I was fascinated by real estate investing (and still am) and knew that I was onto something.
Within 45 days of learning about real estate investing I was fortunate enough to complete my first real estate investment deal with a profit $22,000. This changed my life because when I broke down my time spent on this particular deal I learned that I was making about $2,750 dollars per hour opposed to $10 an hour at the sandwich shop.
So, I quit making sandwiches & decided to go all in on real estate. That first year alone, my team and I generated revenues of over $12 million from investing in real estate.
Fast forward seven+ years, I have built my own real estate investing businesses, managed investment teams, advised dozens of investors & companies on real estate investing, worked & consulted with companies on the Hit T.V. Show “Flip This House,” and worked with some of the fastest growing companies in the Nation according to the Inc. 500 list.
All of this experience has led us to create RealEstateSkills.com – a real estate education company providing coaching, tools, and resources to start a successful real estate business or career.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’m not sure if the entrepreneurial path in any industry is ever smooth. Yes, there have definitely been struggles along the way, such as investment deals that did not bring in a profit, or 6+ month long projects that pan out to break even. What’s fantastic about Real Estate Skills, is that we’re able to share the Obstacles/Challenges we’ve already experienced in order help other real estate professionals to learn from our mistakes, as well as, our successes.
Not too long ago, I had to make the challenging decision between being a high six-figure CEO in the real estate investing industry, or pursue RealEstateSkills.com. After much thought, the challenging decision became an easy one when I asked myself: “What opportunity allows me to help more people & change more lives?” The answer was RealEstateSkills.com.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I always stayed active playing lacrosse and football. I was fortunate enough to be a lacrosse team captain for nine years. The experience of being a team captain for that long taught me to lead by example. It also instilled my belief of anything can be accomplished through hard work and a clear vision.
Personality wise – I am extremely focused and driven. Yet, I always strive to make sure others & myself are having a good time and enjoying the journey. You have to remember to have fun along the way, otherwise, what’s the point?
Interest wise – I’ve always enjoyed helping others, whether it’s been assistant coaching sports, or mentoring students in San Diego State University’s Lavin Entrepreneur Program.
One thing most people don’t know about me is that I enjoy playing the guitar and making music. Creating something brand new from scratch is always an exciting process.
