Check Out Rebekah Kamauu’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebekah Kamauu.

Hi Rebekah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hi, I’m Rebekah Kamauu—mom of two, entrepreneur, nationally and globally ranked athlete, and the owner of Cookie Curator, a home-based bakery in Orange County specializing in custom-decorated sugar cookies.

Before starting my business, I worked as a senior project manager in clinical research organization. At the time, I was juggling a lot and found myself craving something that was just mine. One day, I saw a video of someone decorating sugar cookies and instantly thought, “That. I want to learn how to do that”. So I did.

I decorated my first cookie in December 2015, and nine years later, it’s turned into the sweetest dream come true. I’ve created thousands of custom cookies and taught decorating through local classes, national workshops, and online courses.

Beyond cookies, I speak at events, host workshops, and run an online store with cookie tools, pre-mixes, and more—now carried in three storefronts. I recently moved into digital education, launched my first planner, and continue sharing my journey with over 61,000 Instagram followers.

My mission is to inspire others to build something meaningful and sustainable—and to show that building a business and building a life you love can go hand in hand.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I absolutely loved the early days of starting my home bakery—there’s something so energizing about building something from scratch and watching it take off. But at some point, I realized I was doing too much. I was taking on every custom order, teaching classes, saying yes to last-minute requests, and trying to keep up with it all…all while being a mom of two and managing everything life was throwing at me. Let’s just say—it was a lot!

I learned the hard way that just because I COULD do it all, didn’t mean I SHOULD. I was exhausted, overwhelmed, and running on very little sleep—and that wasn’t the life or business I wanted to build. That season forced me to learn the power of boundaries. I started saying “no” to the things that didn’t align. I hired help. I leaned into my support system and gave myself permission to rest.

That shift changed everything. I stopped treating rest like a reward and started treating it like a requirement. It’s still something I actively work on, but learning to protect my time and energy has helped me grow my business with intention—and made me a better mom, creative, and leader in the process.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At its core, my work is about helping people create something meaningful—whether it’s a single cookie or an entire business. I built Cookie Curator from the ground up, and over time, it’s grown into a brand that supports others in building their own creative paths with clarity and confidence.

I specialize in custom-decorated sugar cookies, but my work has expanded to include cookie decorating classes, decorating tools, pre-mixes, and digital education. My products are carried in three brick and mortar storefronts and ship nationwide, and I recently launched an online course to help others teach cookie classes and build a new revenue stream.

What sets my work apart is the intention behind it. I’m not just making things for the sake of it—every product, class, and resource is designed to help others simplify their process, reclaim their time, and feel more empowered. I want to see people flourish, both creatively and professionally, and I’m proud that my business continues to grow in a way that reflects that purpose.

What are your plans for the future?
I’m really excited about what’s ahead. I’m currently developing a new merchandise item that I believe will be a game-changer—not just for cookie decorators, but for crafters and creators across different spaces. It’s something I’ve personally wanted to create for a while, and I can’t wait to bring it to life.

I also recently relaunched my recipe blog with a simplified, reader-first approach: no long intros, just clean, tested recipes people can actually use. Right now, it’s sugar-cookie focused, but I’m looking forward to expanding it to include more of what I bake and love—quick, approachable recipes that still feel elevated.

And this summer, I’m launching something brand new: Cookie Camp. It’s a one-week day camp for kids ages 6–12 where they’ll decorate cookies, do crafts, and have a blast in a hands-on, creative environment. Watching ideas like this come to life and create community in new ways is one of my favorite parts of what I do.
