Community Highlights: Meet Chantal Davis of Free Flow Health Acupuncture

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chantal Davis.

Chantal Davis

Hi Chantal, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I began my journey into Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2006. I studied orthopedic acupuncture while in school and I thought that was where my passion lied. Life had other plans for me. In my last semester of school, I became pregnant with my first child and began to attract fertility patients to me. This set me on the path of Women’s Health. I have spent the past decade helping women and couples prepare for conception by optimizing womb, egg, and sperm health for natural conception as well as IUI and IVF. My favorite demographic to work with is pregnancy. It has been my honor to help many women along their pregnancy and birth journey. As I myself move into perimenopause, I find great reward in helping women navigate this transitional time in their lives. It is my mission to change the narrative on perimenopause, menopause, and moving into our wisdom years.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A smooth road rarely leads to growth. I can say I have had my fair share of challenges along the way and continue to do so. At the same time that I started my practice, I became the mother to my firstborn son. He was diagnosed with epilepsy at 18 months old. While swallowing that pill, his little brother decided to make his way into our lives. My son has had many challenges that have been very hard to navigate without any family nearby; however, I have managed to do so. I’ve navigated his learning challenges and the lack of information on his condition as well as divorce along the way. All the while keeping my practice moving forward. It is the times in the clinic working with patients that have grounded me. Of course, being self-employed has its own ups and downs, but in the end, I wouldn’t change it for the world. It has allowed me to give so much time and energy to my children while having the balance of using my knowledge and tools in this medicine. I feel very lucky to practice Chinese Medicine and to have a practice that has survived and continues to thrive.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am so excited to say that in June 2024, I finally opened my very own clinic, although I have been practicing Traditional Chinese Medicine for well over a decade in other people’s clinics. During my time at acupuncture school, I was a massage therapist. I believe this background really makes me stand out in my profession, as I have an innate ability to feel where issues lie within the body. In my clinic rounds as a training acupuncturist, I focused mostly on orthopedic acupuncture, which gives me a great ability to treat chronic and acute pain. My main focus in my clinic today and for the past decade, however, has been on Women’s Health. I don’t think you find many Women’s Health specialist who have a lot of training in pain management as well. I am grateful to have the knowledge, confidence, and ability to treat both as oftentimes, the two go hand in hand, especially during pregnancy. Every treatment I do, especially if there is pain involved, has some amount of massage included, which I know my patients greatly appreciate. I have extensive knowledge of the reproductive hormone system in both Western medicine and how it relates to Eastern medicine. I love helping women find hormonal balance whether it be in their 20s, 30s, or 40s. It is my mission to help women of all ages understand that painful menstruation and extreme PMS is not normal and not something they have to live with. I have created an entire self-guided 12-week course teaching women about the phases of their cycles and how to live more comfortably within them. It is called In the Flow and can be found on my website or Instagram.

As I enter perimenopause, I have a passion for helping women move through this transition smoothly. I am currently launching a monthly support group for women in this phase of life, which can also be found on my website or Instagram.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice to anyone starting out would be to find a good business coach and a mentor to help guide you. It is so wonderful to learn from other’s mistakes so that you don’t make the same ones. I was lucky enough to start my practice off in an office with a seasoned practitioner who shared a lot of business wisdom with me. Often, in the wellness world, when we are training for our profession, we learn very little about business. I would suggest putting a lot of energy into business classes first thing out of school. Another piece of advice that I believe has helped me survive this long in my field in an area that is very saturated is to be yourself and remember what it is that you specifically have to offer. We all have unique gifts.
