Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Aldama.
Hi Robert, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have been a part of the Martial Arts Community since the age of 14. I always had an interest in martial arts. I started training in the art of Hawaiian Kenpo karate. I was introduced to Muay Thai when I was 16 by my cusin Karlos Aldama who was training muay thai at that time.
I joined a Muay Thai gym in Imperial Beach, CA, With Master Victor Beltran. I train several years under Mr Bletran. It was not long when I started to assist with youth classes. I enjoyed helping and teaching Muay Thai. As time passes and I was now teaching to all age groups. I began to develop athletes into a competition. Trought the years, I have founded and developed several gyms in the South San Diego area.
Flash forward to 2021 and I am currently at Aldama Muay Thai GYM. Back in 2019, I partnered up with Victor Aguilar and Rachel Aguilar to open a Muay Thai gym only. Our main focus is the growth and development of muay Thai in our community.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
There have been many challenges in my journey, and I am so grateful for all of them. I strongly believe that hard work and dedication is required to achieve any goal or dream you may have. With each challenge, there is growth. One of by challenges has been time. I have dedicated countless hours to my dream/goal that I personally could have dedicated to my family. I have learn with time to have a healthy balance of work and Family. Sometimes we are so driven to achieve our dreams that we forget who else is on board.
Now we face a new challenge as all small businesses Covid-19. During the past year in half our industry has been hit really hard. We continue to march forward with the amazing support of our members and community.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We teach muay thai for all ages. What set up Aldama Muay Thai part from others in our area is our Kids/Teen Muay Thai development program. We have worked hard over 16 years to develop a youth program that is Safe, Fun, and proven. We have developed multiple State, National and North American Champions of all ages.
We have our Kids Muay Thai development program Monday to Friday from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Our Teen Muay Thai Development Program is Monday to Friday from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm and our Adult Muay Thai program is Monday to Friday from 7:30 pm to 8:30.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love about our city is that all people from all different walks of life can get together. Specialty in the Martial arts community. One issue that I do notice in our City that needs improvement is the well-being and safety of our displaced individuals.
