Conversations with the Inspiring Thao Nguyen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Thao Nguyen.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Thao. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I had just graduated from high school and needed a part-time job before heading off to college for International Business. I decided to get my certification and become a nail technician. I quickly fell in love with the art of nails and have been consistently working in this industry for over ten years.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It is definitely not a smooth road! You face new challenges each day which keeps you on your toes. Don’t let the simple things discourage you from doing what you love. Take it as a learning lesson to better your craft. Discover your weakness and work on perfecting that weak point.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Rose Canyon Beauty & Spa story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a nail technician with over ten years of experience. I specialize in acrylic nail art. I am most proud of being able to create any type of art my clients have requested. My clients will come to me with their own creative ideas of what they want to be done to their nails and I enjoy working with them to spin that idea around and turn it into art.

Three years ago, my husband and I partnered with a few friends to create our own line of product: NotPolish. Our NotPolish dipping and acrylic systems were developed when we discovered that we were not satisfied with the performance of other dipping and acrylic powders on the market. As salon owners and consumers, we felt some of the product available on the market lacked some of the quality we wanted to pass down to our clients. Soon after, we developed our own in-house blended powders and grew that to be a commercial success. Ever since our founding, we have always been focused on the people. Our love for community has propelled us from small salon owners to a nationally recognized brand of nail artists with head-turning designs. Our roots are based on sharing, educating, and showing the world the beauty of inspiring art.

Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
Yes, definitely! As a child, I was always obsessed with art so when I started doing nails, it was a canvas for me to express my artistic ability. It was magical to be able to create all types of intricate designs on their nails.
