Hi Summer, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Events have always been such a big part of my life — I’ve spent over 15 years creating experiences that bring people together and celebrate connection. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work in so many different corners of the event world — from managing weddings at one of San Diego’s most loved venues, to planning corporate events across the country, and later serving as the Director of Events for a local nonprofit. Each role gave me a deeper appreciation for the joy and community that come from meaningful gatherings.

It’s always been a dream of mine to have my own event company, but for a long time, I wasn’t sure when the “right” moment would come. That changed when my friend Andrea opened Rise & Shine Play, an indoor playroom on Shelter Island. She asked me to be her preferred event vendor, and honestly, that was the push I needed to make it official. Jade and Ray was born soon after, and it’s been such an exciting journey ever since.

After becoming a mom, my passion naturally expanded into creating beautiful, intentional celebrations for families — baby showers, birthdays, dinner parties, and other small but meaningful moments. These micro-events have allowed me to focus on what I love most: the details, the emotion, and the connection behind every celebration.

Today, Jade and Ray is all about crafting intimate, personalized events that bring people joy and leave lasting memories. It’s been a dream come true to do what I love, connect with incredible clients, and help turn their visions into something truly special.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business from the ground up is definitely intimidating — there’s no handbook, and so much of it is just learning as you go. I’ve had plenty of moments filled with questions and uncertainty, but I’ve learned that sometimes you just have to take the leap and trust yourself.

One of the best parts of this journey has been the incredible community I’ve found along the way. Through social media, I’ve connected with so many amazing mom-owned businesses, and we’ve built a real network of support. From sharing referrals and collaborating on projects, to swapping advice on accounting, systems, and all the behind-the-scenes details — it’s been such a gift.

Even though entrepreneurship can feel overwhelming at times, being surrounded by other women who are building their dreams too has made this adventure not just manageable, but really rewarding.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Jade and Ray is unique in that we specialize in full-service event packages for smaller, more intimate gatherings — I like to call them micro-events. These are celebrations like birthdays, baby showers, dinner parties, and other milestone moments where every detail feels personal and thoughtfully curated.

One example is our event packages at Rise & Shine Play in Shelter Island. Clients simply show up to a beautifully styled celebration that’s completely ready to enjoy — every element, from the theme to the décor, has been taken care of. Our packages include high-end paper goods from brands like Meri Meri, Bonjour Fête, and others whose designs I truly view as art. These luxe designs inspire me to create beautiful, cohesive spaces that feel joyful and elevated.

In addition to décor, we also handle balloon arches, floral arrangements, party favors, table styling, and custom details that bring each event to life. No two projects are ever exactly the same, and that’s what I love most — every client has a unique vision, and I get to turn that into a one-of-a-kind experience.

What I’m most proud of is the trust my clients place in me. It’s such a privilege to be invited into their most meaningful moments and to help create celebrations that they’ll remember forever. That connection and joy are what truly set Jade and Ray apart.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to know your worth. Many people don’t realize all the behind-the-scenes work, planning, and detail that goes into creating a truly memorable event. It can feel overwhelming at times, but I’ve learned to trust the process and focus on delivering the best experience possible — the right clients will always find you.

One of the biggest compliments I’ve ever received is repeat clients. Knowing that people trust me enough to come back for multiple events is incredibly rewarding and really reinforces that valuing your work and your time pays off.
