Daily Inspiration: Meet JJ Tintiangco

Today we’d like to introduce you to JJ Tintiangco.

Hi JJ, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My story as an artist and designer began with curiosity and a desire to understand people. I grew up surrounded by color, movement, and the energy of California street art, but my creative path didn’t become clear until I started using art to process my own healing.

Before launching JJ Typography, I worked in education and wellness, teaching ethnic studies and creating programs centered on identity, self-love, and mental health. That work taught me that creativity isn’t just about making it’s about connecting. I realized design could be a tool for care, storytelling, and transformation.

JJ Typography became the space where all my worlds merged. I design visual experiences that help people and brands express their truth with empathy and authenticity. My art lives at the intersection of wellness, culture, and community, always rooted in the belief that creativity can heal, empower, and bring people home to themselves.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has definitely not been smooth. My journey has been full of pivots, lessons, and moments where I had to rebuild myself while still showing up creatively. A big challenge has been learning how to balance being the visionary, the artist, the strategist, and the one keeping everything afloat financially. As a creative who feels deeply, I’ve had to navigate burnout, perfectionism, and the pressure to constantly produce.

I’ve also struggled with decision paralysis and overwhelm, especially while running a business with ADHD. There were seasons where I had the talent and ideas but not the systems, the mentorship, or the financial stability I needed. Freelancing wasn’t always consistent, and I often had to choose between survival and creativity — something many artists silently battle.

Another challenge has been being misunderstood. People see the final product but not the emotional labor, the healing work, the late nights, or the risks I take to stay true to my art. I had to learn how to protect my energy, set boundaries, trust my intuition, and not shrink just because someone couldn’t grasp my vision.

Still, every obstacle has shaped me. They taught me resilience, clarity, and intention. They pushed me to create art and design rooted in empathy, healing, and purpose. And they helped me build a career that feels aligned with who I am, not who the world expects me to be.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My work lives at the intersection of art, healing, and design. I’m a digital artist and product designer who specializes in custom lettering, visual storytelling, and wellness-centered design. Through JJ Typography, I create bold, emotional, and purpose-driven visuals that help people and brands communicate with clarity and heart.

I’m known for transforming stories into visual experiences, whether through custom artwork, brand identities, or digital products. My style blends vibrant color, movement, and intention, but what truly sets my work apart is the emotional depth behind it. I design with empathy and I focus on how my work will make someone feel, not just how it will look.

I’m most proud of the impact my work has had in community and healing spaces. From co-creating a self-love coloring workbook that is used in education and clinical settings, to working with clients who want their stories honored visually, my mission is to create art that helps people feel seen. My background in ethnic studies, youth work, and mental health programming shapes everything I make.

My work isn’t just creative. It’s connective. I see design as a form of care, and I bring that intention into every project, big or small.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I’d like readers to know that my work is rooted in care. Every piece I create, whether it’s custom lettering, a brand identity, or a wellness-focused design, is guided by intention and a desire to help people feel seen. Art has always been my way of understanding myself and the world, and I hope my work gives others space to do the same.

I’m passionate about creating environments where creativity feels safe and accessible. We live in a world that pushes us to produce, monetize, and constantly perform, and I want my practice to be a reminder that creativity can also be a place of rest, reflection, and truth-telling. I believe in building spaces where people can express themselves without pressure or perfection, and I hope to continue expanding that through community work, workshops, and future offerings.

I’m also proud of the ways my background in education, mental health, and ethnic studies inform my work. My art isn’t just visual. It’s emotional, cultural, and deeply human. I want people to walk away from my work feeling grounded, affirmed, and reminded that their story has value.

If there’s anything I hope you take with you, it’s this: art can be a form of healing, creativity can be a form of liberation, and we all deserve to exist in spaces that honor our full expression. My work is an invitation to reconnect with that truth.
