Today, we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Sgrosso.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m originally from a small town in Massachusetts. Growing up, I was an awkward goth kid into witches and vampires, making nature potions in my backyard and hanging out in the graveyard that was a quick bicycle ride from my house. My favorite show was Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Do you need me to say more? As I got older, I dabbled more in tarot, fashion & styling, and working in skincare & holistic health through schooling, various jobs, and time spent poring over vintage occult, art history & herbal books.
I bounced around colleges and states, moving back and forth from Boston and Los Angeles in the early to mid-2010s. When I moved back home in 2016, I started my vintage brand, Cosmic Cult. Inspired by Hammer horror, groupies and girlfriends of 60s & 70s rock bands, and vintage occult paperbacks, I sold vintage ceremonial, psychedelic, and folkloric clothing through stylized photoshoots taken by my boyfriend. I deepened my studies of the tarot at this time and started collecting vintage tarot & oracle decks. I also made my first tincture from fresh goldenrod found at the beach and made bath soaks inspired by the four elements.
I moved to Joshua Tree in January 2019. While living here for five years, I went through what other desert inhabitants know of, too, the deep shadow work and reflection that occurs in the desert. What is my purpose? What am I doing? The desert acts as a mirrored portal. I underwent many phases of shedding skin, calling upon the snake as my teacher, and starting anew with fresh, glistening scales. I have continued my early studies of divination and ritual since my move to the mystical desert, delving deeper into my craft, divination, shadow work, and energy ~ spell work.
I’ve been selling herbal apothecary products under the name Fever Dream Apothecary since 2019. Over the years, I created many tinctures, zodiac-planetary-themed perfume oils, herbal-infused body oils, skincare, aura sprays, and bath soaks. I was featured in Vogue, CR Fashion Book, and The Observer for my custom work with fashion brand Baja East. I have now shifted my focus onto perfumery and am downsizing my product line. I got sober in 2022 and found clarity, deep truths, and a calling to read tarot for the public.
I had only been reading tarot via posts on Instagram or reading for friends at parties. I began reading at local markets in Joshua Tree, Yucca Valley, 29 Palms, and Palm Springs and have received such beautiful feedback from clients, friends, and strangers alike. I’m currently booking readings online and will be taking walk-ins & appointments on Saturdays at Roots & Stars Botanika in Morongo Valley starting in June!
We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There were some struggles! In 2020, I opened a vintage shop called Ramblin’ Rose in a shed in Joshua Tree. I sold magical vintage with a Western flair, local jewelry, pottery, and my apothecary products. I was open for three years, closing it after intense burnout and feeling lost about the direction my life was taking.
Opening a business during the pandemic was strenuous and uncertain. And relying on tourism for income is also something I don’t want to experience again. I could not compete with the seemingly never-ending new businesses and wouldn’t want to. I’m not a fan of the rat race. I’d rather see everyone win than push people out of my way to get to the front. And that mindset doesn’t bode well for the competitive nature of the desert!
I focused more on my tarot and folk herbalism practices and closed Ramblin’ Rose in early 2023. Since then, I have been working part-time at my friend & local artist Kime Buzzelli’s beautiful vintage shop called The End. Ever finding the balance between my love for vintage and my magical practices.
I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a witch, a tarot reader, a folk herbalist, and an analog collage artist. I’m a Scorpio sun, Leo moon, and Capricorn rising. I work between astrological alchemy, dream mythology, and plant magic.
My tarot readings are an integration of my intuition and clairvoyance with the ancient rites and symbolism of the tarot. I include numerology, folklore, the current astrological weather, lunar cycles, and dream work. I’ll also recommend herbs or flower essences to work with, candle spells, or other rituals. I am a guide for people during times of transition and change, helping them find comfort in curiosity and step into their power. Those I’ve worked with tell me how accurate and transformative my readings have been for them.
Plant medicine offerings are intuitively and ceremonially crafted, utilizing magical and folk properties and my intensive knowledge of herbalism. I put a lot of love and energy into what I create, working with natural cycles like seasons and lunar phases. I employ the same process with my newest venture: perfume. Inspired by my dreams, mythology, planets, and folklore, they are created during certain astrological seasons to amplify their magic.
I would say I’m proud of my work as a mystic because of the relationships I build with others and getting to help people work through their crossroads and personal labyrinths. I can provide a space where people feel safe to be open and vulnerable without judgment. It means so much to be someone that people turn to for self-empowerment and clarity.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Well, I think success is subjective! I believe the qualities that have brought me success are having an open heart, striving to be my most authentic self, trusting in the universe, and being grateful.
Success is when clients recommend me to their friends, tell me how much they love or connect to my products, or have a breakthrough after a session together. I feel successful on days spent creating healing herbal offerings in my apothecary and when I’m reading tarot for someone over Zoom with my cat purring in my lap.
Success is when a client comes to me months later to tell me that they were deeply impacted by a reading I gave them or a ritual oil that I made. I am so grateful for the connections I have made through doing this work!
