Exploring Life & Business with Brittany Cohen of Peaceful Warrior Law

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Cohen.

Hi Brittany, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, I attended the University of Nevada Las Vegas for my undergraduate degree, where I also played Division 1 Soccer. From there, I went on to attend Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego for Law School, where I graduated in the top 6%, Magna Cum Laude. Growing up in a very entrepreneurial family, I went to law school with dreams of serving business owners. While in law school, I worked for a small business litigation firm serving business owners and I quickly realized that my dreams of serving business owners and the realities of serving business owners in a traditional law firm setting were quite different.

So, after graduating from law school, I opened a law firm with a colleague from. While continuing to help small business owners, I also began representing those who were injured in car accidents through no fault of their own. Having gone right into my own practice out of law school required me to teach myself how to be a lawyer and a business owner. Through that experience, while that is an ongoing evolution, I learned so much on how to connect with people, use my resources, ask for help, and really immerse myself into each client’s specific matter as if it were the only case I had.

After several years of litigating personal injury matters, I decided to open my own law firm, Peaceful Warrior Law. I continued my focus on serving victims of car accidents as well as added a new practice area, Estate Planning. I was inspired by my mother’s story when my grandfather passed away with what he thought was an effective Estate Plan. Consequently, my mom and aunt had to spend close to 3 years in probate court and $55,000 on a probate attorney… all because the Estate Plan my grandfather believed he had in place before his passing was not effective.

Watching my mother’s experience unfold in the way it did made me realize that middle-class families and small business owners are largely underserved in Estate Planning, and those are the people who need it most. Probate court can be expensive, invasive, time-consuming, and stressful. I am so passionate about helping families create effective estate plans to ensure that their loved ones don’t have to go to probate court when a loved one dies.

Peaceful Warrior Law is a boutique law firm that is dedicated to serving two main practice areas:

1) Personal Injury Victims: representing those who have been injured in auto accidents, and

2) Estate Planning: helping middle-class families and small business owners create effective estate plans that keep their family out of court and out of conflict.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not always been a smooth road. I have wanted to quit the “entrepreneurial” road and considered different paths for myself many times. Some of the struggles, in the beginning, were getting the types of cases and clients that I wanted. Then when I would get the cases or clients I was seeking, I would struggle with “imposter syndrome,” thinking I didn’t know what I was doing to actually help my client.

However, through the struggles, there’s so much growth and evolution. It required me to have a paradigm shift in my thinking to where I stand today in being so grateful to show up and serve my community in a really meaningful way.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

1) Estate Planning, and

2) Personal Injury

Estate Planning:

My estate planning practice focuses on helping families and small business owners prepare the documents they need to pass down their estate to their loved ones in the most stress-free and cost-effective manner. I help individuals and families prepare wills, trusts, health care directives, financial and medical powers of attorney, and more. I also help business owners with succession planning.

What makes me and my practice different is the way that I talk to my clients about what estate planning is, what their family needs, and my ability to connect with my clients so they feel understood and empowered in their decision-making. Unfortunately, there will be a day where we all will pass away. And estate planning really isn’t about You; it’s about the people who you love the most because you won’t be here when you need your estate plan to work (or you won’t know that you’re here). But it’s the people who you love the most who will appreciate what you are doing for them when you take the time to create an estate plan that actually works.

So, I help give families the peace of mind knowing that they lived up to their promise to their loved ones of “I took care of it.” Whether you are married or single, with a traditional family or blended one, just starting out, or looking back on a life well lived, I help craft a plan that achieves your goals for your loved ones today and for years to come.

I have grown TikTok following as well, @brittanycohen_attorney, where I do weekly Live Q&As about estate planning.

Personal Injury:

So far in 2023, Peaceful Warrior Law has helped recover $1,000,000 in compensation for my deserving clients who have been injured in car accidents! I love being able to put money in my client’s pocket after months or years of suffering from the negligence of others and from the stress of dealing with lowball offers from insurance companies. The excitement and gratitude my clients express after their case is finished and they have received the compensation they deserve is a great reminder of why I love doing what I do.

I have been selected to the Super Lawyers Rising Stars 2023 list for my accomplishments thus far, which I am very proud of.

Readers can reach me on all social platforms or via email for a free consultation anytime! I have a great community and network around me, so even if I can’t serve them directly, I have many others who I trust to refer them to!

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was very social, extraverted, and competitive. I played sports my whole life, which contributed to my competitiveness in all other areas of my life. I have always had an insatiable curiosity to learn about the things I liked. Once I developed an interest in something, it became like an obsession, and I wanted to learn everything I could about said topic. Which has definitely transitioned well to my career choice since it requires you to be a life-long learner.
