Today we’d like to introduce you to Claritza Castro.
Hi Claritza, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a California Licensed Esthetician and Make-up Artist. I grew up in Linda Vista for most of my life and have since lived in a couple parts of San Diego. I was a “scene” kid , always doodling on myself, trying to express myself through my hair and clothes, waiting for the day I could finally wear makeup. I spent the summer before high school in my room practicing various make-up looks from my favorite YouTubers. This is where my journey with make-up sparked. I was obsessed with being able to transform yourself, express yourself, share your inspirations and moods all on your very own face. After trying my hand at being a Medical Assistant, I took the leap I needed and began Esthetics at Bellus Academy. I had an amazing course taught by Nicole Aguilar, who truly opened my eyes to pro make-up artistry. My love for make-up turned into a deeper appreciation of facial features and how beautiful non-symmetry truly is. I gained confidence to approach someone else’s space to put my personal touch and interpretation onto their canvas (their face). I began collaborating with @yazreve and @alarcon.beauty , which quickly became a safe space to freely create, learn, and gain confidence in myself as an artist. With Esthetics, I dove head first into hair removal. Hard wax, soft wax, sugaring. I am and will forever be learning more skills and growing within the field of esthetics.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think my hardest struggle has been mentally. Leaving my previous career, I found myself in a very hopeless state if mind. I had completely lost confidence in myself. With that, learning new skills like waxing, sugaring, beauty enhancements, facials, has been extremely healing. Feeling stronger, more empowered, more confident.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I currently specialize in hair removal and have been a part of an adorable waxing and sugaring studio in North Park called Gingerly Wax! I also freelance make-up services, give facials, brow laminations, and continue to grow as an Esthetician. I believe my work is transformative. That hands are healing. Being able to gently guide you, educate you, assist you in your self-care journey, all while giving my personal touch.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
You can book me, follow my social media, and collaborate! I love to create and bring visions to life.
