Today we’d like to introduce you to Adriana Ferreyra.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Adriana. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in the restaurant business. My parents would take me to work with them when I was a little kid. My mom was a manager and my dad was a chef and through them, I learned about the in’s and out’s of the industry. I remember being so fascinated by the concept of a restaurant and how every little part is vital to one big organization.
Over the years I’ve spent time working in different positions within the service industry to get a better understanding of how each position works. With a big passion for restaurants, I knew that one day I would own/operate my own establishment. This is when I met my boyfriend Nicholas Kacha, owner of Rudford’s Restaurant. Over the past few years, we have worked collectively to keep this home sweet home thriving.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always many obstacles and challenges when operating a successful restaurant, especially one of this magnitude. A lot of long days and nights. Constantly trying to stay ahead of the changing trends to keep the customers coming back. There is always something that needs your attention when you are in the restaurant business, whether it is a broken toaster or an unhappy customer. There is no such thing as a perfect establishment.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Please tell us about Rudford’s Restaurant. What should we know?
Since 1949, Rudford’s Restaurant has been a family-owned and operated All American Diner open 24/7 located in the heart of North Park. We strive in providing excellent customer service while making everyone feel welcomed. We serve breakfast all day and have classic favorites such as chicken-fried steak and biscuits and gravy, food that gives you that warm feeling just like mom’s cooking.
A few years ago Nick (Nicholas) created the Big Nick Challenge. The challenge consists of a massive burger (4 – 1/2 pound patties, hash browns, white sausage gravy, eggs, and our famous homemade salsa) and a giant handful of fries. Contestants have thirty minutes or less to fully devour their plates to receive a t-shirt and have their photo on the Wall of Winners.
We are proud of creating an establishment that people look forward to come to and most often call home. All of the food that we serve is homemade and made fresh daily, never out of a box or can. It is hard to stay away from all the contagious smiles and delicious food here at Rudford’s, where everyone is part of the family.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
One of my favorite childhood memories was the lemonade stand I started with my little sister. My parents started us off with a couple dollars to buy some fresh lemons, filtered water and sugar. We pressed each lemon by hand, added just the right amount of sugar and added filtered water, we had created the perfect recipe.
One summer it was so hot that we had the genius idea to serve the lemonade on top of shaved ice. One of our neighbors gave us twenty dollars for one lemonade snow cone! That’s when I knew I enjoyed the idea of making someone happy through food and making money at the same time.
