Meet Allie Wilson of JKW Innovations

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allie Wilson.

Allie Wilson

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The story behind JKW started at home. I grew up in a house with seven siblings. We all had completely different interests growing up. I stood out as the sibling who gave school my complete focus and dedication. It was always a dream of mine to surpass academic expectations and serve as a role model for my siblings. Despite the diverse personalities, we all shared one common bond—our youngest sister, Bella. When Bella was born, she was diagnosed with a rare condition called Dravet Syndrome. At age 2, she was put in a coma after a long seizure for three months, losing 50% of her brain function and becoming paralyzed. She has needed 24/7 around-the-clock care every day since. Growing up side-by-side with Bella taught me a number of life lessons about kindness, compassion, and empathy; however, it also ignited a small fire in me. This started me down the road of wanting to help children, and what better avenue than using my enthusiasm for learning? Years later, my father, already driving down that same road, had me hop on the bus that is now known as JKW Innovations! Back in 2021, he asked if I would help him with administrative work for his independent contracting jobs at enrichment centers. At the time, my father was already an accomplished teacher. Before getting started at enrichment centers, he was a high school counselor, a private tutor, and a martial arts instructor for over 30 years. Excited by the impact he was making at these centers and recognizing the potential for us to create a more profound difference in the community, I happily accepted his offer to work with him. It was only after diving into this world that I realized the immense potential in transforming our joint efforts and dreams into a legitimate business. To that end, we took our individual life experiences and molded them into a new, wholly independent company… JKW Innovations, a place where students of all ages, abilities, and faculties can take classes that put the “fun” back in learning through innovative curriculum, state of the art technologies and softwares, and one-of-a-kind instructors. Working side-by-side with my father is an experience I am truly grateful for; however, finally legitimizing our dream to help students is simply an incomparable feeling.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting from scratch is never easy, especially when transitioning from a conventional 9-5 job to a position of leadership. Both my father and I have come to realize that running a company comes with its advantages, alongside its share of stress. On one hand, we have the freedom to make all of our own choices, like deciding classes, curriculum, and schedules, but on the flip side, the success of the company is directly correlated with the effort we invest in it. In other words, if we don’t do it, nobody will. Teaching has always come easy to us. Running a business has not. Our responsibilities now extend beyond just being instructors; we now have to not only discover, but master every part of running a business, including marketing, website management, and finances.

We’ve been impressed with JKW Innovations LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a small family-owned business founded by a father-daughter duo on a mission to redefine education and open doors for students to explore their passions beyond the traditional school curriculum. While we do offer core mathematics and English classes, we take great pride in our “fun” STEAM courses/camps that are designed to be hands-on, keeping students engaged and eager to learn. Though we plan our curriculum in advance, we employ an individualized approach. On the first day, we make an effort to get to know our students and parents, ensuring we tailor the learning experience to each individual’s needs throughout the semester. We believe that parents know what’s best for their children, and we work collaboratively to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment. We also recognize the value of emphasizing core character qualities throughout our classes such as integrity, resilience, and responsibility, as this equips students to make wise life decisions. In essence, we are proud to be more than just a STEAM learning center; we are a dedicated community working together with parents to nurture the holistic development of each student.

What are your plans for the future?
We are always striving to enrich and expand our programs, ensuring that every student, including those with special needs, receives the tailored education and assistance they deserve. A crucial aspect of our upcoming plans involves securing our own location to host our programs. Our current accommodations are great, but we are always looking to do more for our students. Our aim is to establish an environment that provides ample space, specialized facilities, and enhanced resources to enhance the learning journey for our students. A new space would also allow us to expand our capacity and potentially offer a wider range of classes, workshops, and camps to serve more children within our community. We also hope to establish scholarship opportunities for students. This would ensure that children from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses have access to our hands-on learning experiences and can explore their passions and interests. Overall, my personal journey, guided by the support and inspiration from my father, has fueled my drive to create a successful and meaningful path for JKW. By combining my passion for community service, my love for teaching, and my unwavering determination to uplift others, I aim to continue to make a difference in the lives of children, just as my father, Jeremy Keith Wilson (JKW) did for me.
