Meet Dave Werth of The Werth Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dave Werth.

Dave, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I got into real estate in 2009, just after the market had crashed and was slowly creeping toward recovery. It was an extremely challenging market to start a real estate career in. Not only did I have the learning curve of being a new agent, short sales and foreclosures (which are very intricate transactions) made up a large percentage of the sales in the market. Having come from corporate sales jobs, there was the additional learning curve of having to become an entrepreneur… how to self-manage, stay motivated etc.

As I plugged my way through the second year and started getting traction, I came to realize very quickly that the real estate industry and the solo agent model was very antiquated. You had all of these Realtors, who not only had to face the basic challenges of being an entrepreneur, they were also trying to manage every single task required of a Realtor. Example: Generate new clients, show properties, manage listing logistics, admin paperwork, disclosure paperwork, finances, customer service… the list goes on.

It was at that time that I made a decision to only focus on the parts of the business that I felt I was the best at… marketing, negotiation and educating my clients…… and build a team around me to not only do the rest…. but make sure that every person on the team had a role, and was ONLY working on the part of the business, that they were REALLY good at. It was this realization that inspired me to build a team that was exactly that…. a team of young real estate professionals that were hungry, humble and smart…. and that had the opportunity to ONLY focus on their strengths.

The end goal was to ensure that the client, got the very best from start to finish, even if it meant that they worked with 2 or 3 folks on the team…instead of just one person that was spread thin an providing mediocre results along the way. Since that time, we have evolved into an award-winning, premiere real estate team that delivers world-class results.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been far from smooth. I wouldn’t call them struggles, nor do I like to think of my less favorable moments in business as a struggle. In fact, some of what I thought were my worst moments in the business have turned out to be my favorite…. a lot of the times those moments end up being the best/funniest stories (they just sucked at the time:)) I would say that it has been a wild journey of failing forward. You make mistakes along the way, fall down, get back up, dust yourself off, and keep going.

It’s the learning curve of being a business owner, and constantly entering territory where you have never been before. I think some of my biggest learning experiences have come when I gain an understanding of how to be my authentic self in business. Not knowing how to do something, or making a mistake is one thing….. you might feel bad that you didn’t know better….. but there is no worse feeling than when you realize that something happened because you were not aligned with your authenticity.
