Meet Francisco Rivera of Wepa Commercial Cleaning

Today we’d like to introduce you to Francisco Rivera.

Hi Francisco, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story started long before business ownership. I served 16 years in the United States Navy, including deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. That experience shaped the way I see leadership, discipline, accountability, and service. After the military, I worked in the private sector and continued building myself professionally while earning my MBA. At one point, my wife brought me an opportunity to get into the janitorial industry through a franchise. I took that leap, learned the business from the ground up, and eventually realized I wanted to build something of my own, something bigger, stronger, and more aligned with who I am. That’s how Wepa Commercial Cleaning was born. What started as an idea grew into a respected veteran-owned company known for quality, consistency, and doing things the right way. Over time, our work, our reputation, and our impact in the community helped us grow into the company we are today.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Like most real entrepreneurial journeys, mine came with a lot of risk, setbacks, lessons, and pressure. I had to learn how to navigate an industry that was highly competitive while also figuring out how to build a brand people could trust. I started in a franchise model, but eventually realized it was limiting my growth and vision. Walking away from that and betting on myself was not easy. There were moments of uncertainty, moments where I had to push through doubt, and moments where I had to stay focused even when things were not moving as fast as I wanted them to. But I’ve always believed that pressure builds strength. Every struggle taught me something, and every setback sharpened me. That road made me who I am as a business owner and as a leader.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Wepa Commercial Cleaning ?
Wepa Commercial Cleaning is a veteran-owned commercial janitorial and disinfecting company based in San Diego. We provide professional cleaning, sanitation, disinfecting, and electrostatic disinfecting services for a wide range of clients, including government facilities, commercial buildings, schools, gyms, and other organizations that expect a high standard of service. I built this company with a military mindset, meaning structure, discipline, consistency, accountability, and pride in the mission. We are not just there to clean a building. We are there to help our clients create safe, presentable, and professionally maintained spaces that reflect excellence.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was driven, competitive, and very people-oriented. I’ve always had a strong personality in the sense that I care deeply, I push hard, and I’ve always wanted more out of life. I was never the type to just sit back and accept average. I’ve always had an interest in leadership, in building, in connecting with people, and in proving that no matter where you come from, you can create something meaningful. I also had a strong sense of pride and responsibility early on, and I think that carried into every chapter of my life, from the military to business ownership. I’ve always been someone who believes in showing up, standing tall, and giving everything I have.
