Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Ober.
Jacob, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I and my business partner, Matt started working here in 2000. We both worked our way up through the years and through a few different owners. About 5 years ago, we purchased the business from the last owner.
The business was mostly a Used Sports Shop when we took over.
We transformed the business into a team sports store that does print products, uniforms, and spirit gear for little leagues, high schools, and businesses.
Has it been a smooth road?
One of our biggest obstacles was entering into the imprinted products business. There is a lot of competition out there. So, we had to be creative and aggressive. We brought a lot of our Embroidery and screen printing business in-house to help with that.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Retro Sports story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a Team Sporting Goods Retail Store that also specializes in imprinted products. We are known for our extensive line of baseball, football, soccer, and weight equipment.
We have 10 embroidery heads at the store and do all embroidery work in-house. We also have printing services on site as well.
We are super proud of baseball/softball glove selection as well as our Garment Decorating Services.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Online sales have made things tough. But with the customization side of things, it has enabled us to continue to grow. If we were to try and just do straight retail I think we would be in trouble. By offering these services, we have attracted a different client we would never have that chance to serve.
