Today we’d like to introduce you to Jayde Stamm.
Jayde, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
CBJ Studios started as Cakes By Jayde originally in 2016. around 2016 I was still fighting for my citizenship here in the states and this was two years after high school where I wasn’t able to work or go to school but I knew I had to do something to keep me busy and earn some sort of income, I had a phone bill and gym membership to pay for. I made cakes for friends.
Then it turned to two or three cakes before my friends made business cards for cakes by Jayde. I was raised in the era of social media, so I took to Facebook and started a page and promoted myself on the forums. I did a lot of cakes just to pay for supplies so I could gain clientele with different projects. Flash forward to 2020, I decided to rebrand to CBJ Studios because I’m doing more than just cakes. Here I am today with a thriving clientele, several big projects, etc. CBJ Studios is known for its amazing decorated sugar cookie designs. We’ve also created a space for other creatives to thrive. On the CBJ roster, we have graphic designers, coordinators, pastry chefs and even a mixologist. We are more than your ordinary cake shop. we’re even on YouTube where I have executively produced content to sell products.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. Some obstacles include my need to be a control freak. I would rather do it myself than to teach skills to new people who won’t do it exactly how I want. But I’m learning to designate tasks to others while managing a small staff. There have been times where I have overbooked myself self and I’m working 28hr days. I try to do a lot on my own while working part-time jobs. Other than usual funding and not having enough hours in a day- the road is as smooth as it will be during this current climate.
Please tell us about CBJ Studios.
CBJ Studios is a full-service cake/dessert shop. We offer desserts and specialty cookies for all events. We’re known for our cookies, content creations and more. I’m proud to have so many creatives working with me on CBJ Studios- thru CBJ, we offer desserts, photography services and even mixologists for any events. Not only do we have baked goods but CBJ Studios provides workshops to teach decoration skills of all levels and styles. As well as dipping our toes into the merchandise like our infamous CAKE socks. We also have DIY kits for this COVID Craziness. I think what sets us apart is the fact that we aren’t a traditional cake or cupcake shop.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would hire a baker passionate about cake and cake design to head baked goods.
