Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Dick.
Kelsey, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been athletic person my entire life. I went to either the dance studio or practice every day after school and it continued into my adult life when I cheered for Atlanta Falcons. After hanging up my pompoms, I decided to turn my passion for fitness into a career. Once I taught my first indoor, I knew I was hooked and found my path. After leaving Atlanta and moving to San Diego, I found my home at CycleBar Hillcrest and it’s the best home I could have ever found. I have grown so much as an instructor and as an individual due to the warmth and loved the CycleBar community has. I even reached my goal and became a Master Instructor with the company and now get to travel around the country teaching and inspiring new instructors. It is the best job in the world and I am lucky enough to have it.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been the smoothest road getting to where I am today. It took a lot of trust in myself and my ability and knowing that I had what it takes to be successful and achieve all the goals I set out for myself. I didn’t get a few instructing jobs that I auditioned for, studios I worked at didn’t prove themselves to be the right spot for me (even moved across the country for one of those studios). But I knew I would end up where I was meant to be and if I continued staying true to myself and teaching with a passion… It would all work out.
Please tell us about your work.
I work for CycleBar Hillcrest as well as the corporate side of the company CycleBar. My duties as Lead Instructor as CycleBar Hillcrest consist of teaching nine classes a week, recruiting and on boarding new talent, maintaining the brand within the instructors as well as stepping in when needed for the manager role. My classes are high energy, full of life, and we listen to the best music out there!! I tend to play a wide range of music and get recognized for my playlists and the songs within them. As my career has progressed, my style of teaching has too. I have been called “Preacher Kelsey” and “Lil Tony Robbins” as my classes tend to have a motivational, inspirational, and soul searching feel to them. I push the riders both physically and mentally. I want you to go on a rollercoaster of emotions in my class and end knowing that you have everything it takes to achieve and conquer anything. I am extremely proud of CycleBar Hillcrest and the group of instructors I get the privilege to work with. They are some of the best in the business and it shows as we are one of the top three studios in the country for CycleBar. Myself and all the instructors I work with have a true passion for what we do and the studio we work for. It’s like no other studio I’ve ever worked at… The people, the community, the instructors… It’s the absolute best!!
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I’d have to say my parents, especially my mom, have been my biggest supporters throughout my entire life. They were with me every step of the way and helped me understand that things don’t come easy, that you have to put in the effort, the time, the blood, sweat, and tears. When I moved across the country for a leadership role, my parents packed my entire house and did all the shipping so I could get out to San Diego quickly and start making a name for myself. Along with my parents, all the riders that I engage with daily are mentors and role models to me because I see them pushing their boundaries in class, achieving their own personal goals, and leading a positive life… And healthy. I look up to a lot of my fellow CycleBar instructors because not only is their passion for the brand deep but their leadership skills on and off the bike are something that I always strive to work on. I want to lead by example. I’d also like to give credit to the owner of CycleBar Hillcrest, Bob Franzetta for giving me the job that I have always wanted and believed in me to lead his studio into one of the top studios in the country!!
