Meet Kimberly Purchase of Uneeke Boutique in La Mesa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Purchase.

Kimberly, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always loved Fashion! I was one of those little girls who played dress up in her mom’s closet. My 1st job was in retail & knew then I wanted a career in fashion & to eventually have my own store!

I worked for several major retailers, did everything from sales associate, dept mgr to a store mgr always wanting to learn & do more.

It wasn’t until, I worked for a private company that had 26+ stores nationwide, in house design dept, did wholesale &was based out of Florida that I learned what it took to have your own business as well as all other aspects. It was w/ that company I started as a store mgr, then a district mgr, had opportunities to work at conventions learning the wholesale side, got to travel to other stores to troubleshoot, gave input in designs, as well scouting out locations for upcoming store. Not to mention just the business side of a business, sales, productivity, overhead & etc.

In 2010, I took the plunge, I started UNEEKE2 a pop up boutique. I did events, house parties, markets & Fashion shows around San Diego. In June 2013, I had the opportunity to have a temporary store front which lasted 6months.

In January 2014, I had to decide to keep doing pop-ups or search for a storefront. The struggle of searching for almost 5 months was real.

In May, I decided to go outside the areas I wanted to be in & came across the current location. I drove out met with the realtor & thought about it. I went home, picked up my mom, drove her out to the location & w/ tears in my eyes, my mom said ‘This Is It”, this location is perfect! Without any hesitation, papers were signed the next day.

On June 11th, 2014, UNEEKE BOUTIQUE was introduced to the city of La Mesa & doors opened!

Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. For me, it’s been staying with my plan & budget. I also have to constantly remind myself that mistakes are lessons. To remember MY purpose & to NEVER stop!!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Uneeke Boutique story. Tell us more about the business.
UNEEKE Boutique is a woman’s clothing & accessories boutique. As in the name, I keep items unique, minimal sizes/styles, this way I am able to bring new goodies weekly! Of course, customer service is always #1 but customers should NEVER feel pressured to buy something.

If they try on items but aren’t sure, we will discuss/try other options, discuss their current wardrobe to see how new items can be mixed in. It’s ok if those customers have to go home to think about it because 9 out of 10 those customers come back & are excited to add the new pieces into their wardrobe.

I am truly humbled by the many friendships I have gained. The stories my customers share w/ me, the good/bad/ugly & for some who have shed a few tears.

UNEEKE Boutique has definitely been the place to shop but has also been a place my customers can just come by to say hi, chit chat or to see what new goodies are coming in.
