Hi Kris, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I got my start in digital marketing by helping a friend build a website for his service business. Beyond creating the site, I optimized it for Google search, which led to him doubling his income in just one year. That success was a turning point for me. I thought, “If I can do this for him, I can do it for other businesses too.” That’s when I decided to start GK Media INC. Today, I’m proud to say I’ve helped hundreds of small businesses generate sales and leads through tailored digital marketing and SEO strategies.
As for Moonlight Movies on the Beach, I was fortunate to be introduced to Fred Khammar, who quickly became a mentor to me. Initially, I handled marketing for the event, but over time, I started selecting the movie lineups and assisting with sponsorships. Today, I work closely with Fred’s daughter, Jesel Ortloff, to continue the tradition of creating memorable community events that bring people together in Long Beach.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I first started, getting new clients was one of the biggest challenges. Convincing business owners of the value of my services wasn’t easy, especially since digital marketing and SEO were still relatively new concepts for many small businesses at the time. Getting my foot in the door took persistence and creativity.
One of the strategies I used was creating the website and social media platform LongBeachStuff. This was back before social media influencers were really a thing. I used the platform to connect with the local community and offered small businesses free reviews of their services. It was a great way to meet business owners, showcase my work, and build trust.
Another key to my success has been joining business networking groups and building meaningful relationships within the community. Networking not only helped me meet potential clients but also taught me the value of collaboration and mutual support. Those connections have been instrumental in growing GK Media INC and becoming a trusted partner for small businesses in Long Beach.
