Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Hardy.
So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born on December 10, 1996. Growing up, I had a bit of a rough childhood but grew up just fine. I find some of my hardest years to be during my teens. That’s when I went through some of the roughest patches that shaped me into the person I am today. About two years ago, I went through the most difficult phase yet. I was faced with a very toxic relationship that I was unable to get out of due to mental issues that had developed over the years. I was at my lowest point and I had hit rock bottom. I spent half a year inside my room, with depression, suicidal tendencies, abusive behavior, trauma, eating disorders, and many more unimaginable health issues. One of those nights, I was at a very low weight of 60 pounds, when I decided enough is enough. I was taken to the ER and transferred to a hospital where I got help with my anorexia and some of the issues I had developed. The toxic relationship ended and I decided to turn my life around, I started focusing on myself and loving who I was, something that I had never done before. I chose life and I find it to be the most beautiful thing I could’ve done. While I was in recovery, I did business school and got my degree. Now, I’m back into modeling, acting and filmmaking. Each day growing more and more.
Has it been a smooth road?
Like I’ve mentioned, I’ve had many obstacles along the way, just remember that obstacles will always come and go, it’s a part of life. I understand that dealing with mental health issues is unimaginably difficult, I myself went through depression, anxiety, self-harm, low self-esteem, suicidal tendencies, eating disorders, trauma, borderline personality disorder, and many other issues. I was able to conquer or control every single one of them. Of course, each one is a different battle, but I had one line in my head – Do it because you want to live a happy life. I kept repeating that to myself, and reminding myself that it will only make me stronger, in the end, it does get better, as long as you chose to make it better!
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I started modeling back in April of 2017, I began my journey with Trade photos to build a portfolio, in the process of doing so, a lot of photographers and people in the entertainment industry found me and contacted me. I had accomplished a few of my modeling goals which were being published in a magazine, and doing fashion runway. In only a couple of months, I met an awesome filmmaker who hired me as an actress and so my acting career began. After my obstacle in 2018 when I was dealing with health issues, I decided to turn it around and make something out of it, not only becoming a filmmaker myself, and sharing my story, but getting a business degree which hopefully, I can begin working on soon. By now, my career goals are simply to keep growing in the industry. I believe I have a unique look to my style in both acting and modeling, I’m excited to start my filmmaking experience and find myself in that area. I’m mostly known for working in car shows around El Cajon, San Diego, and in runway shows.
Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
I have heard that a lot of successful people tend to read a lot or listen to podcasts and blogs. But I myself like to live, learn, and use my own experiences as my resources to help me. I do keep a diary, where I write poetry, scripts and simply words I find of wisdom. I find everyone is inspiring in their own way, but I myself like to be inspired by none other than me.
