Rising Stars: Meet Joshua Sanchez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Sanchez.

Hi Joshua, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I was growing up, I was always interested in going with my mom to the nail salon to watch her get her nails done and she would let me get my eyebrows waxed, and that’s kind of where my fascination with eyebrows started when I got older and became a cosmetologist that fascination turned into a career and I started working for Ulta at the brow bar and I was there for almost 3 years, waxing brows and learning face shapes colors shaping of brows and learning how to become a great communicator, and on top of that, I was learning how to teach people about products. These all became factors in the evolution of my Brow career. That’s when I noticed that people started doing this amazing new trend called Microblading and I had always been asked by my clients in a joking way that they wish they could always have the brows that I had created for them, and when I saw a Microblading, it just sparked something in me and I really wanted to do it at the time I didn’t have the funds for it and a lot of the people that I had talked about me doing. This didn’t really give me any positive feedback, but I didn’t want to give up on that dream, so I ended up getting enough money to take a class and just went for it. The place that I had been working at the time was a Salon and after I had received my certificate, I was let go unfortunately and it just didn’t make me feel good because I invested in my career but wasn’t supported by my peers. But then something amazing happened the company that I had gotten my training from actually called me and gave me the opportunity to become a trainer because they love my personality and thought that I had what it took to become a good trainer after dropping everything and moving to a new city and going through the training program. It opened up so many learning experiences and that’s where my career started to take off, I was flying to different states teaching students, and also growing as an artist. At the time financially I was naïve and didn’t really know what my worth was but after some time, I realized the company that I was working for, wasn’t letting me earn as much as I could potentially earn, and all it took was a student in one of my last classes that I taught there to open my eyes to what my full potential could be because they offered me an opportunity to work with them so I took it but little did I know that it was almost like a repetitive cycle that would happen again, and after each opportunity, something became very clear to me and it was that I needed to see my own worth so that’s when I took things into my own hands and started working on my business by myself and everything just started to snowball and it was like the universe wanted me to see that all the work I was doing for these other people could be done for me. I’m so grateful for those opportunities and teaching me my worth and also showing me that I could do things no matter how many times I had to start over. I had such a different idea of how people would be in the industry and I was so disappointed over all the negative things I had experienced through working with other artist and other companies, but I didn’t wanna give up and I wanted to show everyone that I was truly passionate about this art, and it wasn’t just something being done to be seen on social media or to have this image being portrayed that was not reality it was really about connection and healing and building confidence in others. That really made me feel so amazing inside and it’s been almost 7 years since that journey started, and I just can’t believe how far I’ve come and how booked out I became after taking on my own clients and business and that my clients would always genuinely appreciate me and be there for me. I feel so appreciative and grateful that I get to do something that I love every single day and help change people’s life and make them feel confident and beautiful in their own skin. I wouldn’t trade it for the World.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road. I feel like the road to success isn’t just a straight line forward. It’s got ups and downs and twists and turns and you learn so many things about yourself and about others. On the way I worked with a lot of really well-known artist, but one thing that I noticed being around them was that they weren’t truly passionate about what they did. It was more about money and how they appeared on social media, and that’s just not something that I vibe with. I almost felt like a rebellious artist in the system and I could just feel when people aren’t genuinely passionate about something that they’re doing for work they were so much ego and competition and it just made me not feel well to be around that type of energy , so I really focused on creating these amazing experiences with my clients and I feel like that’s what has genuinely made my business grow. Creating a safe space for people having them come to an appointment feeling nervous and almost afraid to trust you, but then at the end of the appointment they feel so confident, and they trust you. It’s such a roller coaster, but it’s fantastic.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a permanent makeup artist specializing in microshading Ombre and microblading and also a combination of both techniques which I call a hybrid Brows I’m really known for these larger transformations on people who don’t have any brows at all and creating something beautiful that they feel confident in. I feel like I’m really well known for creating unique custom brows that fit every person’s face and not just a generic shape that’s repeated over and over again I’ve really turned it into an art form and not just a replication product. I’m just really proud of how far I’ve come what I’ve gone through and my motivation to keep on moving forward and making people feel beautiful, I think what makes me different from others is that I genuinely care about my clients and don’t treat them like they are just dollar signs. I really connect and listen and almost become a therapist in a way lol
