Is the public version of you the real you?

We all think we’re being real—whether in public or in private—but the deeper challenge is questioning whether we truly know our real selves at all. In any case, even when we know ourselves we might face various pressures that push us to fit in or not cause trouble – so even the most well-intentioned person might struggle to always be 100% real in public.  Sometimes the simplest questions are actually the most complex. Thankfully, we have some wonderful members of the community who offered to share their thoughts on this challenging question.

Michael Alfuso

Yes, the public version of me is the real me. I think this can come as a surprise to many in the film and TV industry, where it’s common for people to present a curated front. Read more>>

Yes—the public version of me is very much the real me. One thing I’ve always stood on is authenticity. What I share with the world is a true reflection of who I am, not just as a business owner, but as a woman, a mother, and a person. I do believe in keeping certain things private, but I also think there’s power in relatability. Read more>>

Absolutely — because I’ve built my work, and my life, around alignment. My Amplify Authentically™ initiative was born from the desire to help people connect with their soul, get familiar with who they truly are, and be willing to expand — because we all have room for spiritual growth. From that place, you can find your voice and speak from it authentically. Read more>>

Precious Addison

The public version of me is very real, but she’s the ‘limited edition’ version of me, if you will… She’s the strong one, the polished one, the confident one people see leading a class, directing a shoot, or speaking on a mic. That version is definitely me, but it’s not all of me. Read more>>

Jennifer Dineen-Cosh

In many ways, yes, but it’s definitely the more polished version. I’m naturally shy and more introverted than people might expect, especially for someone in a client-facing business. So showing up publicly, promoting my work, and putting myself out there doesn’t always come easy. Read more>>

Xavier Barrett

I love this question. I think in this day and age with social media it’s very easy to get lost in what’s fake and what’s reality. People only post what they want people to say and it’s most likely only the good things going on in their life. Read more>>
