Art & Life with Janelle Marina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janelle Marina.

Janelle, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I wasn’t born to be a photographer! I stumbled upon it while I was working as a Cake Decorator -Yup cakes… Three tiered, Fondant, and all! During that time I was also planning my wedding! Then IT happened, the “Engagement session.” I was hooked! Our photographer was able to capture the real us! Suddenly I had this overwhelming urge to serve others and give them those same excited feelings that we had. Allow them to be themselves in front of my camera - to relax, flirt, joke, get sweet and intimate! I wanted to tell their story.

Here we are, seven years later… cuddling on the couch with my hunka husband and three babes. Flipping back and forth between The Goldbergs and American Ninja Warrior, munching on some chocolate ice cream, wondering who farted!?! Yes. Living that glamorous life! On the weekends I get to escape in the sweet serenity of other peoples’ love stories. Capturing the natural connection between my clients is my passion. I specialize in engagements, weddings, and anniversaries for the lighthearted couples.

My style is Soft, Romantic, and Fun. I’ve had the privilege of being featured on some of my favorite wedding blogs; Southern California Bride, Wedding Chicks, and Style Unveiled. But I’m not just the “photographer” that snaps a bunch of pics and calls it a day! I was a bride that was right where you are overwhelmed with options, having to trust complete strangers with huge tasks that can either make or break the biggest day of your life. I’m the friend that will guide you through a stress-free wedding experience, by sharing tips and tricks on how to prepare from the very beginning this way your day runs as smooth as humanly possible. Think of me as a bridesmaid with a camera. I fix flyaways, bustle gowns, grab shoes, tuck in those annoying hanger straps, fetch drinks, hold bouquets, pin boutonnieres, fluff dresses, dab tears away without smudging makeup, chase after the three-year-old flower girl, hug grannies, and much more!

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I absolutely love what I do and I truly care about my clients! I look for the best light, place you in the most flattering natural poses, and capture real connections. I keep every session light-hearted, fun, and romantic! I love the blend photojournalism with touches of fine art. My goal is to create a stress-free luxury wedding experience!

Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
Take it one day at a time. Keep your goals in mind, but understand that it will take a lot of work to get there. Put in the work. Try to find balance, because it’s easy to get wrapped into your own business and neglect your personal life. Cut yourself breaks, and make sure to appreciate the small milestones along the way.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I share beautiful galleries of real couples, testimonials, and detailed pricing on my website. I want to be as transparent and helpful as possible.
