Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Rubio.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
In college, I studied Mathematics for its practicality and a push to enter STEM field. While I found joy in writing proofs and engaging the creative-logical mind, I created and sold art on my own time, refining my talents by working as an apprentice artist at age 20. Ultimately, I pursued a career in Secondary education and taught a variety of subjects from High School Math to Art and Painting. After years of pushing students to take risks in order to follow their dreams, I decided to pursue my own passions by becoming a full-time artist.
Today, I create art either at my studio in San Diego or out and about in a Buick Mini Van.
Please tell us about your art.
I am an outdoor enthusiast who believes in pursuing life in overwhelmingly beautiful places, and my desire to explore is naturally reflected in my landscapes. I am drawn to places that make me feel alive, and I try to capture the feeling and vibe of the scenery that majority of people will never experience. I focus on whimsical foliage, stylized mountains, and colorful landscapes with high saturation to highlight the energy felt in each memory. As an environmentalist and adventurer, I hope my work motivates others to get outside and appreciate what we have before it is too late.
Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
Put all your time and energy in your chosen craft. Foster talent with a growth mindset. Learn from your failures. Take risks
