Today we’d like to introduce you to Ed Tisnado.
Can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I remember in the fifth grade walking home from school one day and was about three houses from home when a new kid on the block stopped me. It so happened, this new kid was a bully and I was going to be his newest victim.
He started by telling me he was going to beat me up, and then proceeded by knocking the books out of my hands and shoving me until I tripped and fell to the ground. Although he was not much bigger than me I was paralyzed by fear. I finally escaped by picking up my books and running home. This went on for two weeks until my oldest brother saw what happened one day. I have five brothers and this was unacceptable to my oldest brother. To make a long story short, after he gave me a pep talk he offered to give me some money if l fought the bully. The next day I fought the bully and beat him up. He never bothered me again.
My brother didn’t intervene because he wanted me to face my fear.
At the age of 48 I was facing that bully again. Not another kid across the street, but unemployment, the feeling of failure and feeling obsolete.
I have been involved in leadership, management, sales and marketing most of my career and while in the real estate industry helped in opening new mortgage branches and managed sales and loan originating teams.
When the real estate market tanked I got out of the industry and then took a job doing internet marketing with a company that provided online marketing service for real estate brokers and agents. That lasted less than two years before I was let go.
I looked for a job for about two years but seemed to be overqualified (or obsolete) and nobody was looking for managers.
I was at a crossroads. I was going to cave in to the negative thoughts that filled my mind as doors closed on me for two years or I was going to take matters into my own hands.
In 2010 I decided to start my own business, instead of waiting around to be hired somewhere.
I sought out one of the top SEO’s in the SEO world and paid him to mentor me for a year. During this time after doing my research on the SEO industry I realized that SEO would come to be localized and that local businesses would end up needing localized SEO services. I decided on the business name Local Marketing Suite for this reason.
Local Marketing Suite, Inc is now a successful company and because of our success we have grown and moved into a larger office space in 2017. Today, Local Marketing Suite clientele includes franchises, local businesses, preschools, family entertainment, retail, restaurants, financial, dentists, chiropractors, attorneys, clinics, real estate, fitness, marketing agencies, contractors, e-commerce, mom & pop businesses and more.
I started a second business in 2014 and plan to start others.
Has it been a smooth road?
For the most part, it has been a smooth road. What I mean is there haven’t been any real roadblocks or opposition. Any business startup is difficult. There is a lot of thought and work that goes in to it. The challenge has been in handling growth, but it’s a good challenge. There is a constant learning curve, especially in this type of business. You have to either learn what you don’t know or find someone who does know.

It bothers me and my wife when we’re driving around a see empty buildings and closed businesses. It probably means somebody’s family is feeling the pain of that. I’ve been there and it’s horrible.
I know that having my own business is to make enough money to provide for my family and feel good about myself, but that is really secondary. The primary reason I own a business is so I can have a positive effect on other lives. I truly believe in “reciprocation”, “give and you will receive”.
That is what I am most proud of.
