Meet Kelsey Smith of Kelsey Rae Designs in North County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Smith.

Kelsey, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my business with a passion for weddings + the desire to do some really rad designs for my couples big days! My first job in the industry was working as a venue coordinator for Ponte Winery. While I was there, I gained a ton of experience but knew my goal was to ultimately start my own company. In 2015, Kelsey Rae Designs was created and I couldn’t be more excited and happy! I get to work with THE most amazing couples + vendors/friendors. This community is incredible and we all collectively get to make our brides + grooms the happiest ever. How awesome is that?

In the past year and a half, I’ve expanded Kelsey Rae Designs and brought on our OC/LA Coordinator, Courtney! She’s such a blessing to have on our team + has such a heart for serving our couples! We’ve done some amazing things in San Diego and are excited to start reaching other areas in California!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting my business has actually been a pretty smooth process for me! I came into the San Diego market at the right time and quickly surrounded myself with incredible vendors that helped me get to where I am today. It’s all about timing and I think KRD emerged at just the right time.

That’s not to say that there haven’t been struggles though. Every business has its ups and downs and it’s all been a learning process for me. I’ve had to learn how to run a business and that can be challenging. Luckily, I’ve had some awesome creatives by my side, encouraging me and sharing knowledge. I’m a lucky gal! Joining groups like Tuesday’s Together has been great too! They share so much knowledge and bring the community of creatives together!

Kelsey Rae Designs – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Kelsey Rae Designs is an event design/wedding planning company! We specialize in making rad weddings happen for our couples! Our design aesthetic leans toward the modern/boho bride, who isn’t afraid to do something a little funky!

We were lucky enough to be published in print/online wedding blogs over 30 times in our first year and continue to get recognized! Our biggest accomplishment was getting featured in The Huffington Post. *Pinch me*

Both myself and my OC/LA Coordinator, Courtney, are planning weddings of our own! To say we can empathize more with our brides is an understatement. We get it, we really do! And we also know how to make really awesome things happen on all kinds of budgets! Call us miracle workers.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is making my brides + grooms smile big on their wedding day. For them to not have a care in the world, other than to dance their butts off and eat some crazy good dessert. For me, that’s a successful wedding, pure happiness.

Gaining recognition on some national blogs is pretty great too, but honestly, making my clients happy is what makes my heart happy.
