Today we’d like to introduce you to Torie Borrelli.
Torie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
At age 12, I became aware of the effect of food can have on one’s body. I learned how to connect the concept of “you are what you eat” and that we really have to take care of the only body we have. I am passionate about educating others about how to live a healthier lifestyle and teach them how to make simple changes for both them and their families.
I love teaching people how to live preventatively; it can be something as simple as adding that immune-boosting mushroom to their morning cup of joe, teaching them that “fat” does not make you fat, or helping them with flavorful recipes that might get them to love kale as much as I do. Without proper education and access to nutrient-rich foods, people today have no chance to achieve a healthy lifestyle. Health takes maintaining balance, gratitude, loving each other, practicing respect, having a positive attitude, forgiving, believing in yourself, and having a positive self-image, all requiring a good relationship with food and wellbeing.
From a young age, my Mexican and Italian heritage birthed my love for food and ever since I have truly valued what cooking offers; time spent with family and friends and nourishment to fuel the best life possible. The combination of nourishing food with nutrition has shaped The Vida Well and is the backbone of my upcoming cookbook.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Of course not. Nothing good comes easy. Struggle has a way of creating changes. For me the struggle was always my health, it never ended, I just wanted to be “normal.” From gut issues, parasites (which made me extremely underweight), dietary restrictions, food allergies, misdiagnosis from dozens of doctors, skin issues, and it went on for year and years.
Now each struggle I look back on, and analysis has been manifested into something beneficial in my life in a way I can help others breakthrough their struggle. It’s taken years for me to not be so hard on myself, but I am so happy to say, I feel my best now and cannot wait for what next.
The Vida Well – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My goal is to inspire and educate all people to live a preventive lifestyle, which means not to wait until you’re sick to change your habits. I have worked with hundreds of clients suffering from inflammatory diseases for over a decade. Working closely with each individual, giving them the tools to shop, cook and eat based on their specific genetic predispositions and preferences by integrating a combination of clean and nutrient-dense food, hydration, sleep, stress reduction, supplements, and movement into their daily routines. By diving into their lives and taking the time to understand each component, I am able to optimize their health, increase longevity and promote wellness in just a matter of weeks.
I want my clients and readers to have a positive relationship with food. My methods are intended to nurture a love for food, enjoyment of cooking, and reverse any fearful mindset toward the latter. There is no counting calories and no quick fixes, but rather a lifestyle adjustment. I believe everyone can change their eating habits for the better and increase their longevity simply by putting in the time to understand what our bodies need to thrive.
Some of my noteworthy career achievements include managing ten farmers’ markets while being the assistant grower at Black Dog Farms Organics; quarterly lectures and developing recipes and menus for Rancho La Puerta’s Juice Bar, The Butchers Daughter group; and representing leading companies in my field such as Bulletproof, Guayaki, LEEF Organics, and Chosen Foods. Working alongside naturopaths, chiropractors, acupuncture professionals, and doctors by educating and inspiring their clients and my TVW clients through 1-on-1 consultations, health assessments, food education and personalized programs that help combat leading chronic diseases.
I specialize in keto and anti-inflammatory programs with an emphasis on Mexican food. I am different because I help people by giving them attainable goals along with delicious nutrient dense high-fat foods with enough tools where they will not need me down the road again. From skin health to gut and digestion, I pride myself on not just nutrition but so much more.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success has meant a lot of different things to me in my life. Personally, it is all about health and happiness. If you are healthy you can have anything and everything but when you aren’t healthy you really have nothing. I find that when a person is healthy, they are happier and what is better than being happy? Everyone wants to be around you, you bring good people into your life, and you are able to go to sleep feeling good. Of course everyday is not that easy, but staying positive, having goals you can reach, staying organizes, and loving yourself is success to me.
