Meet Trailblazer Amanda Jo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Jo.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After learning that I was gluten intolerant, it motivated me to review the rest of my beauty products to look for possible irritants. I quickly learned that the gluten molecule was too large to enter the pores, however, there were various other toxic ingredients that were lurking in my favorite beauty products and I knew I had to research more. While digging around, I came across endless information on how our toxic loads are making us sicker by the day, especially women that use makeup on a daily basis! Did you know that we can absorb almost 5 POUNDS of chemicals into our bodies, per year if we are someone wearing makeup each day? I knew I had to make some serious changes and from that, my Organic Bunny blog was created as a place to share Organic and Non-Toxic beauty products that not only were clean but that actually worked too!

Has it been a smooth road?
Starting a brand and a business is never easy but when passion motivates you, somehow, you find a way to keep going! My biggest struggles, still to this day, is pushing through how much negativity people online spread. You can be talking about the most positive topic under the sun and somehow, someone will pop in just to ruin your day. Sharing my life and learning not to take things to heart has been my biggest struggle. Also, speaking my truth and knowing that it rattles people, another tough area as you have to choose between being true to yourself and people pleasing! I always pick my truth, as hard as it may be.

We’d love to hear more about Organic Bunny.
So many women and men actually want to clean up their routines but have no idea where to start. I really wanted to help with this problem because it truly is overwhelming, especially when shopping at malls or drug stores! So many brands want to hop on the clean beauty train, however, many are actively greenwashing which means they are marketing their products as clean when in reality, they really are not. Unless you are trained to read labels, shopping for truly clean products is just about impossible these days.

So, to make it easier, I created an online green beauty store to offer only the best of the best. The cleanest, most gentle yet high-performance products around. Unlike many green beauty stores, I will not allow dyes, perfumes or preservatives like Phenoxyethanol as they are still too risky for me to sell to women. I work hard to test out each product for not only safety but performance also. If something is clean but doesn’t work? I realize that’s no help either.

On top of the above, we also offer all of our customers their very own e-esthetician which means our estheticians will hold your hand through your entire conversion to green! Have items you want to replace? We will help! Have skin issues you’d like to treat? We got you. I truly am on a mission to prove that an Organic lifestyle can still be effective and enjoyable!

Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
I actively use a variety of apps when researching product safety. Some popular ones are Think Dirty, an app that lets you scan your personal care items, outlining an overall hazard score and breaking down why each ingredient may be a risk! I also use EWG’s Skin Deep database to review the studies of many common ingredients. While neither are 100% reliable, they are good starting points. I always tell my customers to never trust any one thing, I included. While trust is something I want to be known for, each person should research what is important to them and decide if it’s something they’d like to use or not!
