Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Dowdy.
Hi Mike, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my journey in tech over a decade ago, gradually working my way up from a sales rep to the President of CARI.net. That experience taught me how to grow teams, close complex IT deals, and communicate technical solutions to business leaders. From there, I launched Fiber Alley, where I was an early adopter of SD-WAN and helped enterprises like Target modernize their infrastructure.
Later, I transitioned into customer success at LightEdge, working closely with clients to drive adoption of private cloud and compliance services. That role deepened my understanding of long-term client relationships and recurring revenue models.
Currently, I’m at RapidScale as a Cloud Solutions Consultant, where I help enterprise clients deploy managed cloud and AI solutions across AWS and Azure. My focus has been on solving high-stakes problems—like compliance, security, and AI infrastructure—for CIOs and IT leaders in regulated industries. It’s been a full-circle evolution from selling bandwidth to helping organizations unlock competitive advantage through cloud and AI. Each step has built on the last, combining technical expertise with business acumen to drive real outcomes.
Right now I am focused on building Voice AI systems that help companies schedule appointments, follow up on leads. Voice AI systems will help companies increase revenue reduce cost and free up time.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. The cost of electricity in San Diego has forced most companies to move their work loads to data centers in other parts of the country.
On top of this I had to learn how to sell complex technology without a technical background which meant a lot of self education and leaning into customer conversations to truly understand their problems.
Launching Fiber Alley came with the typical startup challenges: wearing multiple hats, building credibility, and staying ahead of fast-moving tech trends. And even in leadership roles, navigating shifting markets and changing customer expectations has kept me on my toes. But each challenge pushed me to grow, and ultimately made me more adaptable, resilient, and focused on solving real business problems.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve spent my career helping businesses adopt complex technology whether that’s cloud infrastructure, AI, or cybersecurity in a way that actually drives growth. I’m known for bridging the gap between technical solutions and business outcomes, and for helping CIOs and business owners offload complexity so they can focus on what matters.
Lately, I’ve been building Voice AI solutions that schedule appointments, generate leads, create revenue, and free up time for business owners. It’s exciting because it combines my background in cloud and automation with cutting-edge AI to solve real-world problems at scale.
What sets me apart is my ability to translate fast-moving tech into clear value and ROI, and my focus on execution. I’m most proud of helping clients turn new technology into real competitive advantage without all the noise.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is creating systems that free up time. Most office work is pointless. Sales reps spending six hours a day making cold calls that go to voice mail.
Engineers spending hours solving problems that never should of existed in the first place.
Managers host mandatory Teams meetings to state the obvious.
I want to help create an AI world were humans can focus on being creative and solving problems that matter.
