Community Highlights: Meet Erik Frank of MTC Bartending Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erik Frank.

Hi Erik, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
While going to college in the San Francisco Bay Area, I would bartend at some college parties for some spending cash. I then started advertising on some basic platforms. I saw that this could be a fun and a great opportunity to make some extra money. After working in this field for a couple of years, I got an opportunity to work with some amazing bartenders and mixologists. I shifted over to working at craft cocktails bars and became a seasoned bartender in this realm. I moved down to San Diego in 2016. In the Gaslamp of San Diego, I had an opportunity to help design menus in several different bars and compete in some bar competitions. In 2018 I won a national cocktail competition for best winter seasonal cocktail, with Absolute Grapefruit Vodka. My cocktail was called “Aurora’s Embrace”. It was a mix of persimmon, toasted clove, rosemary and of course Absolute Grapefruit Vodka. The prize for this competition was two tickets to go to The Grammys, as well as some money to pay for the trip. After the huge bar and restaurant shut down of 2020, I shifted my focus into doing more event and private based gigs. I started MTC Bartending Services up again. The way running business has changed quite a bit since 2012 but we adapted and we are currently growing and booking more and more.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Learning about marketing, logistics of contracts and other legalities, has been a mission. Also knowing the best way to bring a client on board with our services has taken sometime to perfect. Figuring out how use marketing to set ourselves apart and really showcase what makes us special was a process, as well.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about MTC Bartending Services?
MTC Bartending Services is a dry hire bar. That means you buy it and we mix it. We create a menu of four signature cocktails that are based on our clients and their guests preferred flavors and spirits. We include two homemade purées or syrups that are made with fresh produce from local markets. We then bring a mobile wooden bar to either a private or residential space and help create a fun and vibrant atmosphere. MTC stands for more than cocktails and that is the experience we are dedicated in providing. Our bartenders are fun to interact with, knowledgeable and can whip up some delicious cocktails.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The lesson that I learned that really changed the way that I think is that following through is the hardest part of getting it done. That sometimes you have to wear all the hats and be versatile. Also that things don’t get done overnight. It is going to take some time to accomplish milestones, so be patient with yourself.
