Conversations with the Inspiring Helen Jajo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Helen Jajo.

Helen, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My passion for becoming a makeup artist started when I was a teen. I’ve always loved art, and makeup is a form of art that I was more interested in. Whenever I applied makeup on myself, I would have more confidence because I was happy with the way that I looked. I became a makeup artist because I wanted to help others feel the same way I do when I wear makeup. I love to make my clients feel beautiful by enhancing their natural beauty with makeup.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My advice for younger women who are starting their journey as a makeup artist would be to enjoy and love what they do. When you are passionate about something and work hard for it, you will receive it!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Makeup by Helen story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a makeup artist from El Cajon. There are so many makeup artists in San Diego, so I thought moving here from Orange County would be hard for me to gain clients. When you’re passionate about something and put out your work for people to see, they will see it and come to you.

Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
Applying makeup on myself and learning the application of modern makeup has helped me with the work that I do today.
