Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz Rainey.
Hi Liz, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Indiana where I went to college and met my husband, we moved here three years ago and I don’t think he’ll ever get me to leave.
Although I’ve always had a love for the arts, in all of its forms, my photography journey is relatively new. I bought my first DSLR at the beginning of the COVID shutdown! Being an art minor in college and having only dabbled here and there with polaroids and my iPhone, the real thing hooked me hard and fast. In short, I’m obsessed.
Creating visible art out of people’s emotions is possibly the most fulfilling thing I’ve ever experienced. I’m a die hard romantic and being able to photograph love is such a gift. The incredible backdrop that is Southern California sure doesn’t hurt.
I’m thrilled at the prospect of meeting so many more couples and attending all the weddings, engagements, maternity sessions I can this year. So many tiny moments of life feel like magic, I’m just the lucky middle man that gets to capture it.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has definitely not been smooth. Picking up a new craft, starting a business, and doing it well? Is not easy. It’s been especially difficult starting in an area I’m not from! Breaking into the San Diego photography scene is a real challenge without any family or friends as a built in network. But nothing good comes easy right.

I take photos of peoples emotion! Photos of who my subject is and not just what they look like.
I specialize in capturing candid moments shots with lots of motion and feels!
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Caring about what I do. Not just about sales or “likes” but about creating photos that matter to my clients. And taking the opportunity to learn whenever I can.
