Life & Work with Michelle Brown and Kimberly Flores

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Brown and Kimberly Flores. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Michelle is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Kim is a Certified Pilates Instructor. During a Pilates class Michelle had the idea of incorporating wellness themes, guided imagery and deep breathing into a pilates workout. Michelle presented the idea to Kim. Together they created Mind & Body Pilates: A Wellness Approach. Michelle and Kim uploaded the classes to YouTube so that regardless of finances, location, and schedule, all can benefit.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Originally Kim and Michelle wanted to make Mind & Body Pilates: A Wellness Approach a group outdoor experience. Due to the pandemic, roadblocks occurred. Rather than waiting to bring Mind & Body Pilates: A Wellness Approach to the community, it was decided not to limit participation because of location. With YouTube, the location and pandemic barriers were removed. In the future, Michelle and Kim look forward to bringing Mind & Body Pilates: A Wellness Approach to the outdoors.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Mind & Body Pilates: A Wellness Approach is different from other forms of exercise. These self-processing pilates classes incorporate wellness themes and guided imagery into a full-body strengthening workout. Examples of class topics include self-compassion, overcoming challenges, and cultivating creativity. Each class capitalizes and recognizes participant’s unique internal strengths. Traditional Pilates classes do not integrate guided imagery and self-processing into the workout. Mind & Body Pilates: A Wellness Approach truly reconnects body and mind. Through the Mind & Body Pilates: A Wellness Approach experience, participants receive another tool for health.

Mind & Body Pilates: A Wellness Approach includes interviews with community experts from a wide range of fields that strengthen the community. We believe having a strong community is important, which is why we encourage our subscribers to leave comments on pilates classes they want to participate in and interview topics they want to learn about. We want to highlight services and people that support physical and mental health.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is living in line with your mission and purpose. Success is making choices that fall in line with your values.
