Today we’d like to introduce you to Ron Howe
Hi Ron, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been a lifetime Outdoorsman . I got started at the age of 2 with my Mom taking me Catfishing at night. We would Car Camp at the California Delta. We’d fish canals and sloughs. By the time I was 5 I was already a skilled Angler. By the time I was 10 my skills were growing even more and I was an Avid Angler . It’s all I could think about, sure I played Sports as a kid, but I’d watch TV fishing shows and tell my Mom I can do that Mom!
My Mom always supported me in my fishing activities, she worked nights so outside of our random let’s go fishing trips I was really on my own . We lived by a local lake and it was a built in baby sitter! My Mom
Never had to worry she knew where I was at.
As I grew into my Teens I fished for Sturgeon,Trout,Striped Bass,Crabs,Catfish,Bluegill and if course always Bass! We caught Carp just to have fun! Many weekends in my Teen years my Step Father would drop us off at 7th street pier in Oakland Ca, we would fish all night for Sharks and anything we could catch!
I just lived fishing and would loose a nights sleep just to do it!
When I got graduated High School I went to
Junior College and played College Golf .⛳️
I’d see the ponds and always want to fish! The urge never stopped!
At 19 I began fishing Bass Tournaments with. Friend that owned a 1989 Skeeter Bass boat . His name was Jonnie Jackapozzi ! He taught me a lot about being on time and being committed as a partner. I was all in !
After a few years we faded apart as a Fishing Team. Once I got my own boat I became his competition . His ego got the best of him. At that age I could not understand why? I only wanted to compete with him . Well this fueled my fire even more ! I began fishing Bass Tournaments as the Boater. Where I grew up in the Bay Area there was little to no promotions about Bass Tournaments. We had Walton’s Pond in Hayward Ca as a Tackle Shop . This is where I got my info. John Walton a Class Act! And a great Angler.
He was always willing to help and give up fishing info .
Fast forward,I grew up and relocated to the Sacramento Valley in 2000 or so . This is where I had my 1 and only kid . A girl , took
Her everywhere fishing just like my mom did me. My kid would rather eat berries and play video games, but she always loved the travel.
Once my kid was About 3 back to Fishing Bass Tournaments was on my mind. I had the Truck I had the Boat a 1996 Nitro 884 Savage . I was ready to learn!
I met a guide service his name was Randy Pringle , he still guides to this day! After a couple of guide trips Randy advised me of 100% Bass had a Amatuer league I could grow my skills in. Sign me up!
I built many relationships over the years , many if the wests coats fishing icons just seemed to get along with me and my Passion for the sport! All of these people helped me grow in fishing.
With the internet on the Horizon I knew the world would change and fishing would be right there in the mix. I had several fishing ideas for online ,but I just couldn’t get in the right note . Finally I had an idea , purely around promoting the sport I love and my fishing partner Bob Miller, better known as “Chicken Bob”.
We fished as a team and wanted to grow in the sport . We needed sponsors to cut the cost of fishing down. We had all the website ideas in notes . We just needed a name. Nobody knows Ron and Bob were just a couple old Truck Drivers that like to fish. Nobody would care if we named it after us. So as a couple Rock n Roll guys we decided on RB Bass Fishing . We brought the Red and Black Rock n Roll theme to Bass Fishing.
We had our struggles with web designers and it was frustrating ! I Remember when we hit 10k website clicks, that was amazing!
But I lost a lot of sleep working after hours on a hobby ! It was tough trying to grow.
At this point we had Sponsors and we’re kinda on a roll being competitive in our Tournaments , we were growing in the Sport and so were the results! We always supported youth Fishing . We learned of an event called the Pro Teen rally on the Ca Delta , Andy Cuccia god rest his soul ran these events . It was at this event my partner talked about sharing the tools RB Bass fishing had created . My partner Bob stated “ you’re good at this stuff Ron and I know you would help others!” Well we were again on the same page . We made the decision to grow the Team and do it with the people with their Hearts in the right place.
Fast forward RB Bass Fishing changed its name to RB BASS Outdoors and RB Outdoors. We have over 75 Team members Nationwide that promote the Outdoors and have a passion to do it. In 2024 our website got over 2,479,000 clicks over 590,000 page views to go along with our You Tube,Facebook and Instagram accounts . We truly out grew the original goals . We’ve even been ranked multiple years as the #2 Bass Blog in the country .
We do it because we love it !
