Meet John Giannattasio of Vitality Tap in Carmel Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Giannattasio.

John, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My passion for the health and fitness started at a young age. My mother was a fitness instructor and personal trainer. I grew up in a household where there were no sweets or processed foods. I worked out and played sports all through school. My passion for fitness led me to attend The Fitness Institute International in Ft Lauderdale, Florida where I obtained certifications as a Nutrition and Weight Management Specialist, Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Fitness Testing Specialist, and Fitness Instructor. I worked independently as a personal trainer before transitioning into retail, where I’ve owned and operated multiple retail concepts over the past 15 years. Recognizing a consumer trend toward raw, organic and locally-sourced food options, I developed and co-founded Vitality Tap with my close friend, Aaron Bearce. The rest is history. We now have two locations in San Diego County, and one licensed location in Calgary Canada.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We have had our ups and downs like every company. Our biggest hurdle initially was educating our customers about the many health benefits of eating raw and organic. The health and fitness world is filled with misinformation. It can be difficult for the average person to know what information is accurate, and what information is relevant for their personal goals and situation. We do our best to stay ahead of the curve, and to educate our Team members. That knowledge base, combined with great products and unmatched customer service, has been a winning model for us.

Please tell us about Vitality Tap.
Vitality Tap strives to be more than a “juice bar.” We are evolving into more of a wellness cafe where our patrons can visit any time of the day for breakfast, lunch of just a fresh, organic snack during the day. I’m proud of the amazing team we’ve been able to assemble, and of their unwavering dedication to helping our customers live a healthier lifestyle. Unlike many of our competitors, we make everything fresh in-house, using fresh, raw, organic ingredients. Our products include a selection of delicious, hand-crafted smoothies, fresh juices, elixir shooters, acai/pitaya bowls, and many more healthy, organic snacks. And our offering is always expanding and innovating.

What are your plans for the future? What are you looking forward to or planning for – any big changes?
Our plan for 2018 is to grow our food offerings with an edited, and innovative line of fresh meals and snacks. Our core line-up of juices and smoothies are critical for continued success. But as we continue our transformation into more of a wellness concept, new and exciting food items like fresh salads and grain bowls will be introduced. This is a major initiative for us in 2018, and will help set up Vitality Tap for success and future expansion.
